Been thinking about this location for an INZANE.  Let me state unequivocally, I love attending this event.
While I agree it's a got some attractive points of interest. I question the choice of locations.

Based on my very limited knowledge and asking a few questions, it seems like INZANE has never been a huge draw for West Coasters.   And, this location is a long journey for all east of the Mississippi River.   Hopefully I'm wrong but I don't see a big attendance at this event.    Less attendance means less interest in the organization as a whole.   The average rider is getting older and most are financially limited.    I hope I'm wrong but, I'm being honest.   There will always be those who will go wherever.  Just not as many as there used to be.....

I know for myself, several things will need to fall into place for me to attend.   Discussing this with several of my normal Inzane attending friends, most are telling me the travel time to and from will either limit the time they can be there or keep them from attending.   Some have told me outright that they have no desire to ride through the desert.     I'm also not knocking the decision makers but, declining numbers will tell the tale.

I won't say I'm not coming, I'll be there if I can but, i have my doubts.    Just my opinion.  I know, I won't be missed by .......

I think you have several things wrong.

Snip

I think throwing cold water on the event is doing a disservice to the thankless work they have done and will be doing.

Whether or not I am wrong is yet to be seen.   The numbers will tell the tale.

Cold water?  Ok, making good decisions usually means considering other opinions.   Call it what you will.

I'm about 95% I'll be there, and sadly although I've been around since before Inzane I, this'll only be my 3rd Inzane. I wish I hadn't waited so long to make attending a priority for me...

I sincerely hope to see as many of my brothers and sisters there as humanly possible, but I understand the realities of life; I understand those realities very well (Why I missed the first 16 Inzanes)

I won't look down on anyone who's not able to make it, but I hope as many will make it a priority to attend as possible. But I understand how life is what happens to us while we're busy making other plans.

I even hope to see those of you whom are habitually very, very wrong!  2funny

Really?  You don't think we consider other opinions?  In case you aren't aware, all VRCC staff members live west of the Mississippi; if we chose a location based on what is convenient for us, we would be in the west far more often.  We went east this year, expecting big numbers... didn't happen.  Someone posted a poll (I think JimC) and the majority of responses favored alternating east/west.  As meathead said, reviewing past attendance, does not support your pessimism.

Also, from a pure fairness point, how would like to live in the west and have IZ always in the east?

EDIT:
P.S... Didn't you make similar predictions when we went west before?  Yet those had attendance pretty comparable to those in the east.

Well as for myself, I don't contribute on this board very much. Yes I do read daily and really enjoy the information and the technical info. When I see the political crap I usually stop my reading, Yes I have my opinions but not interested in that crap.
Ive never been able to attend the inzane fun. Mainly work issues, but im really trying to make next year my first! Ive owned my valk since 08 and cant wait to meet folks!!!
Personally the folks organizing anything like this should be thanked! I hope to thank you in person next June.

Like Serk I have been a member from the beginning.  Back in the first years of the club it was said that the majority of members lived east if the Mississippi. The first inzane west was Frisco CO. Attendance was very good. I like to idea of changing it up. Of all the Inzanes I have missed only four. Numbers 1 and 3 (wasn't active in the club in the begining). The second Frisco (couldn't get time off) and the one in Arkansas. I even made Spearfish (in a car) with a broken finger.

After Billings my wife said she would never spend two days riding in a car again. When I told her where next year's was going to be she said she wanted to go. Never been there. I brought up what was said. She said she would be willing to go anyway. We shall see. A lot of stuff is going to have to come together before I can commit this year. Thanks to all the administration does.......

I knew posting my opinion of the location would not be received well by some folks.   I posted it because I think I'm right.   Only the final tally will tell the tale.  Obviously, I need to learn to curb my opinion when it challenges staff decisions.  If my memory serves me correctly, one of the original owners/staff was from CA.  A beautiful state.   Yet no Inzane was held there.   Why?  My gut says attendance issues directly related to travel time and distances involved in and from the "Valkyrie Universe" so, I believe it's fair to say that it doesn't matter where the organizers are from in the decision making process.   The best business decision would be to select the locations that would draw the most interest.  And attendees.

That in no way should be construed as any lack of appreciation to the folks that organize and put this event on.   I've volunteered to help at past Inzanes without being asked and have assisted when asked to help out (when I had other plans) at Billings.    So, I do appreciate the effort.

I believe a location closer to the Mississippi River would draw more attendance.   I do hope I'm wrong about this Inzane.

I forgot to mention that we beat the hotel down pretty good on the rates.

We have rates of $89, $99, and $109.  That includes breakfast.  And the wi-fi works very well!

FYI:  If anyone is concerned about Taos traffic...

Now that's funny.   uglystupid2   The 2016 population of Taos was 5,763.  How much traffic can there possibly be?

Tourists blinkering, dawdling and dithering.
But with the town being so small it is still not a bug deal.just stay out of the "downtown"'area which is about 532 square feet. And all is good. I have visited the town 3 yrs in a row and love the area. Just wish I could make this with the flight of all the valkyries. But it wont happen for me,unless my boss changes his yearly beach trip by a week Undecided

Have you asked your boss about possibly rescheduling his trip?  It's pretty far in advance; one week later may not be a big deal.  It seems fair to me... you vacation at his convenience every year, seems he could vacation at your convenience once in a while.

Last time I drove west there was tornado warning in Salina and I saw funnels

My butt was SO stuck to that seat when I finally got gas later   coolsmiley

Leaning towards the longer route that takes me to 64 but as always all plans are subject to whimsical change  Stayed twice at the Bishop Motel in Lawrence, clean inexpensive and right off the highway and near a great steak house

Happy to ride down with anyone from New England or Canada

Oss

Didnt think I should just show up at Lori's asking for early bird pie     Cheesy

Lori will likely already be in Taos by the time you roll past her abode.

I just returned from two weeks of camping out there.   Was in Red River Canyon north of Taos on enchanted circle... absolutely gorgeous area, all directions (meaning Taos and Red River).  For those of you coming from the east take a look at crossing OK on US 412.   It is not the big slab but half of the state it is a turnpike ($7.50 on trike pulling trailer) and even the two lane part from Enid to NM is very fast moving (and need to check for gas stations).  It is also a much better straight shot to that area of the country!

Connie,

I do not want to violate any of the boards rules so I would like to ask for permission to request donations to my team on the 2018 Distinguished Gentleman's Ride.  The teams name is "Texas Urals for Cancer."

The three cancers or causes will be Prostate, Colorectal, and PSTD. These are strong men's health diseases and believe it or not don't get a lot of attention.

Thank you for your consideration Connie.
