Another member asking about Valkyrie shocks

I know there are a lot of posts here about aftermarket shocks for our Valkyries. Most information is fairly dated and some shocks, (quite a few actually) are no longer made or the business is OUT of business. I have noticed quite a few Valkyries with Progressive 444's. They are not supported on the Progressive site. I called the company and spoke with an actual person. The warranty is voided if the 444 is used. They only support the 412 for the Valkyrie. Does anyone know or recommend a shock at this time. Seems as the Valkyrie is getting older, parts are harder. A shock that you could fully rebuild might be the answer. Anyone have any suggestions/ideas.

I wouldn’t worry too much about their warranty. They don’t seem to honor them about half the time anyway.

Sometimes you can find take-off genuine Honda shocks in the classified section. That's what I did when I realized the Progressive shocks on the used Valkyrie I bought a couple of years ago were junk. Made a huge difference in the handling and ride.

I/S shocks are great for most on their stds/tourers. I have a set of 416s I want to try out. I rebuilt them and added extra oil so I can use less air.

I agree, they don't honor their warranty in many cases, mine was one of them.

Yepper they will get no more of my money some yrs back sent in my 13" 418 model to be rebuilt as I liked the ride but Fla. weather had degraded the aluminum look. They first sent back a set of 12" and I sent them back after talking with them on the phone. They said they would send me a set so everything was ok. Then they sent 12.5"...... When I called again about them not being 13" then told me I had never sent in the 13" and could not prove it!!! The 12.5 worked ok on the highest setting with my car tire not rubbing and a so-so ride. Never again!

I've been running the 444's now for almost 1 year now on my '99 I/S and love them. I also have the 440's on my '99 standard which have preformed exceptionally well for years. Been great for supporting me,the wife and gear for all our numerous adventures with fellow Valks!
