Having a hard time selling my 2001 Valkyrie.
Rebuilt title, and it's quite a stigma for a lot of riders. Not putting it into the ad and alerting the buyer later makes them angry, so I include it in the ad, which turns them off. *sigh*
I've not started it in a year, and now I think it needs carbs cleaned. And I'm no mechanic.
I did begin to look for a Valkyrie buyer down in Ohio i read about many years ago, but can't recall the location or name.
And I'm also tossing the idea now or doing a part-out versus selling whole.
I know it looks t be a complaint-fest in this thread, but my question to pose:
Is it better to sell whole or do a part-out? I don't know market value of a lot of parts. I paid $4000 for the bike back in 2014, from my dad. I don't believe he knew the stigma of a salvage title, and he certainly didn't take advantage of me. But this is beginning to be a thorn in my side, and a spot in my garage.
Thanks for reading.

While this pertains to an automobile I'm thinkin here might apply to M/Cs also. Found a really nice 08 K I A decent miles with a salvage title his price was close to average retail-too close. Talked to my Insurance agent and while I would pay for an 08 K I A-full price-with the salvage title I'd only receive about 45-50% of the pay out if involved in an accident. I am in Missouri but that's what my insurance agent told me. THAT may be the rub of not selling very well for you. da prez is my Brother and he rescues Valkyries. Well-goos luck with yer sale. RIDE SAFE.

What is the asking price? You replied in a private message so no one else could see it?
The price for Valkyries has dropped quite a bit in the last year or two. 4K is very good money for an average Valk today, and very high money for one with a branded title. Throw in the fact that the carb work could cost you $1,000 or more, you are between a rock and the proverbial hard place. You will be lucky to get $1,000 to $1500 for a non running bike with a branded title.
Parting them out is not fun either, the value of parts has gone down quite a bit along with the price of a complete bike. Plus, you have to deal with stripping the bike, advertising the parts, then shipping the parts, it's a real pain in the rear.

Yes sir, price wasn't in the message due to this not being a for sale thread. I figured if I had out the price in the thread, the mods may move it to the classified forum. I will pm you and anyone else who asks. As I stated, I was trying to get input on parting out, and I certainly appreciate your input.

Like mentioned, an unworking vehicle is not worth as much as a fully functional one.
Try cleaning the carbs with a lot of advise that is already posted here, and get it working right first. Then it will be worth 100% of what it is worth. Berryman B12 from Walmart, $4?
Why would anyone pay as much for a (as mentioned) "branded" title vehicle, as one that is not? Without knowing the seller/history/etc. there are a lot of other "better" bikes out there. To buy the branded bike for yourself, to keep "forever" is not a problem, only when it comes time to sell or, as also mentioned, involved in an accident. There needs to be something unique about it, low miles?
As for parting out, your profile pic is a standard, which is a basic bike, nothing extra or worth more, to sell off. Tank, tin, rear drive is pretty much all I see as main items, the rest sell slowly. 6 years after parting out my IS I still had parts, but I had the added problem of selling between countries, but I did make all my $ back, enough to buy another mc to replace it at the right price.

Quick 2,000 parting out then prob another 1,000 slowly would be my guess . . . Sell it cheap . . Plenty of michigan folks that would be all over it if the price was low enough. . . You paid 4,000 four years ago . . Prob worth half that now Hell figure 2,000 for four years Of enjoyment well worth it . .

Define "rebuilt".
What was the nature of the accident damage?
If I was a buyer I'd hesitate purchasing something that had taken front-end damage and possibly affected the frame - but if it was purely cosmetic stuff which was affected, not be an issue.
(Case in point: My first I/S. With less that 1k on it, my riding buddy/gal-pal-at-the-time tipped her bike into my right side as we were waiting to pull onto a road. This caused the bike to topple onto its left. Resulting bodywork and chrome replacement cost was just shy of $7k. The damage was fixed and I rode the bike for many miles before selling it a few years ago.)

Can this also be said of accessories, namely new stuff? I've a bunch of Hondaline, Show Chrome and other Valkyrie-specific items bought as spares for the various F6s I've owned over the years - and it's now time to lighten that load.

I've a bunch of Hondaline, Show Chrome and other Valkyrie-specific items bought as spares for the various F6s I've owned over the years - and it's now time to lighten that load. Bagger, I continually watch ebay, and craigslist for Valkyrie parts and whole bikes. To a certain extent I would say YES. It was not too long ago that a set of saddle bags and mounting brackets would bring $1,200 or more. I recently sold a set of near perfect tourer bags on ebay, I had to re-list them several times, I ended up selling them for $350. The mounting brackets that did not have a scratch on them never sold at $350. I think there will always be a market for the accessories that you have, some, like the cobra fogs lights continue to bring good money, but most have come down in value as the bikes get older. The average person buying the Valkyrie's today are glad to get a great motorcycle on the cheap, and they are happy with it as is. Recently there was a set of new Viking exhaust listed on this site. The person was asking $1500, I don't know if they sold or not, and I would love to have them, BUT at that price, you are paying 30% or more of what the bike is worth today, just for a set of pipes, 15 years ago they would have sold in a day or two. I think your best option for your parts would be right here on the VRCC board, a place where people still appreciate customizing the best bike ever made, and are not worried about the resale value because they know the bike will probably outlast them. I've got a nice Jade n Black Tourer I can't sell either. It's been setting more than I like this year. Guess it's a sign of the times. I try to ride it once a week. But the weather has a bunch to do with that.

I too have been noticing recently a lot of Valks for that 4-5K range where a few years ago I would say worth 6-7K. Sign of the times I guess?? I know I would not sell my Valk I/S much below 7K so guess I will keep it awhile longer and see if it APPRECIATES....
