Choke Problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
«
on:

Just rebuilt the carbs on a Valk. Bike runs great but the choke won't stay on. I can put it on and hold it and everything is fine, when in let go it pulls back by it's self. Anyone know how to tightenup the drag on the cable???????
TIA

mine done the same thing when i put to much lube in the cable..i just gave it time and the lube dried up alittle and the choke went back to normal.. if you did'nt lube the cable..but lubed the sliders..try cleaning some of the lube off of them.

Is the secondary cable running behind the carb rack to the right side been secured to the rear plate stay? That provides some lift in the cable creating a fair amount of drag on the cable system. It's supposed to secure towards the top end of the rear bank stay.
If everything is absolutely installed correctly you can ease or increase drag on the cables with the secondary cable positioning. Even just slightly pivoting the rear cables rigid elbows at their lock nut area to the rack will increase/decrease drag.
Just be sure you don't create too much drag. Make sure the enricher slides are returning to a closed position. It won't take much drag to keep your enricher valves open when you think they're off.
Are both sides actuating via cable lever? If it releases that easily you've probably mounted the slide washers & springs correctly.

I put a small bend in the cable across the back of the carbs and that put enough drag to hold the choke on.
Thanks for the help!!!

When do you use the choke? I have an 03 Std here in MN, and when I was riding it to work last week, it didn't need the choke, and it was 30 degrees in the morning... it ran a little low on idle, but i just held the rpms up while i backed it outta the garage. after that it ran like it was 70 out!

I usually start up with the choke for a few seconds and then use the throttle lock for warm up.
