Was riding my '99 I/S on the slab today, doing about 70 mph, and all of a sudden it hiccuped on me...like the engine cut out for just a fraction of a second...then it was fine....about 10 minutes later it did it again...then didn't do it anymore....had a little over 3/4s of a tank of gas...other than that, had a good day....picked up some chrome nuts and bolts at True Value for the bike, got the trailer hitch swapped out and got the seat fastener to work with my Ultimate seat...but that dang hiccuping has got me wondering... Yep, it happens.. It appears to be one of lifes little wonderments because I don't think anyone has really found a cause.. From all the descriptions, it sure appears to be electrical which leaves a lot of places to start looking .. It seems to be very intermittent and I don't remember it ever leaving anyone stranded.. If it happened to me I think I would start cleaning switches[kill, clutch, stand] and the ICM pin connectors..

My 1997 did this only once, a single missed compression, years ago when I was thousands of miles from home. Scared the crap out of me. It never has done it since, but it's nice(?) to know it wasn't my imagination.

I have had it happen 2 or 3 times in 22,000 miles. I think it is something in the code in the ECM. ?? ???

Add me to the list. Mine was like my cat coughing up a hair ball. Ended with a big back backfire BANG! Then everything was fine. I always attributed it to a piece of crud in a slow jet.

Did it twice on the return trip from Inzane this year. It was on the freeway at about 80 mph.

It sounds like an ECM reset, which happens occasionally in vehicles with electronic control mudules, since the Valks have electronic ignition modules, it sounds like the equivalent of an electronic brain fart.

The first time was on my way back from Inzane I and the second time was on the way down to the Natchez trace. It only lasted a couple of seconds. I bought my 99 new in 01, so I don't think it was related to cleaning contacts since Inzane I was 2 weeks after I bought it. I agree with everyone else's assesment in that I think it's just a rare hiccup in the ECM.

My 2000 I/S has done that at least 4 times...never more than once in a season. Always at extended Interstate speeds. Always in the heat of summer.

My bike did it several times while "down in Dixie", but seems to have straightened back out now. Maybe Ole' Blue needs to come up north for awhile.

I think you'd have to get one of those gray caps, Dave, or Ole Blue might buck you off...maybe your bike loved Dixie and was trying to do the same.... Dave
