Being that this is the only Valk I've ever had, how long should it normally take for the bike to warm up regarding taking the choke completely off?

It seems that she has to run at idle for a very long time before I can even reduce the choke so she won't stall when applying gas or not. Once she is warm then there's no problem.

When it is warm out, I don't use the choke at all.  But when it is cold and the bike has been sitting all night, I'll use the choke...but it isn't on very long...maybe a minute or so.  My morning routine has been to get helmet and gloves on, open garage door, start the Valk with the choke on, back it out of the garage, close the garage door while Valk idles, and then pull out of the driveway.  Usually, within the first 100 yards or so from leaving the driveway, I can flip the choke off.  I might have to rev it a bit at the first stop sign when pulling out just because it might have a bit of a stumble, but otherwise it's good to go by then.

Two minutes or so, warm or cold, maybe a bit longer if sitting in COLD for a while.  Is your idle too low?

have you run fuel system cleaner though recently?  If your choke circuits are dirty, it will take more choke to keep it running.  Make sure you run the bike with the choke on for a bit after you put in the cleaner to make sure the circuits see the cleaner.  I wouldn't ride with the choke on just your "normal" warm-up process should be enough.

Not sure if the idle is too low or not. I might try raising it a bit. Where is the adjustment for the idle?

Good point! I have SeaFoam. I'll put a good dosage in the tank.

The idle adjust is a black or gray knob located between the No.1 and 3 intake manifolds on the right side of the bike - it is ~2 inches farther in from the backside of the intakes. May move with one finger.

Idle is to be 900, but I don't think 1k is wrong.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I only use the choke now when its 30 deg out since doing the ECT mod. Usually less then a min. To long they say it might blue the headers.

Thanks Jess,

Between checking and possibly increasing the idle along with running a tank treated with SeaFoam, hopefully the idle issue will resolve itself.

open up your idle mixture screws 1/4 turn at a time. If the pilot circuit is tool lean it will require longer choke. idle speed as said is the other thing to check. Seafoam has alcohol in it, I have posted the ingredients before, the gas u are using has alcohol in it. putting more alcohol-seafoam will do nothing extra. much better cleaners out there and for less money, gumout regaine is one of them. the cheap crappy gasoline with all of the epa additives to give lesser mpg breaks down within 2 wks, and these additives are what gums up the carbs. with fuel injection it doesn't happen. for carbs always use stabil if going to sit more than 2 wks.

Hard to imagine someone wanting to make changes to the motor and bike without a manual at hand.

Seems counter productive and will certainly lead to making errors that otherwise would be avoidable.

My suggestion is: GET A MANUAL

Does our Choke Offer any Fast Idle or is there a Trick to it ?

I know this is not the standard Mechanical or Electrical Choke as seen on Old Carburetor cars.

I understand it to be an Enrichment Solenoid type deal.

In Arizona we rarely Need a Choke

But if I recall when I have used it I think after setting it , if i revved or bleeped throttle it then raised the idle.  Am I way off here ?
