It was cool no one around and no cars could be heard in the distance and almost total darkness. The clouds had shifted a bit and you could see the red in the distance among the navigation lights. It was much darker than the pics show you can get a hint from the navigation lights being bright. If I had a bed roll I would almost be tempted to set it out. The water was splashing up against the lock making the scene just about perfect.

Looks like something out of the sci fi flick its actually a big power station in the everglades at night. Pulled over to the side of the road backed into a driveway that goes no where in the middle of the fields and a ditch on either side shut the bike off and total darkness. The moon had not come out yet and the smells of the fields and moisture in the air was awesome. There was a car once in awhile and while I was worried about something crawling out of the canal I was enjoying it to much and it was to peaceful to leave for awhile. It was close to the road and the cars go by at about 80 since its a road in the middle of no where. Even the cars going by were a bit strange, its like you would watch and they had no idea you were there. The light from the camera on the phone seemed so bright and was the only light to be seen in my area and once you shut that off you vanished. I left the bike lights on so you could see the road a bit.

Yep agreed... nice. I love night riding and I especially enjoyed when we road out west and shut the bikes down. Pitch black, we couldn't even see the hands in front of our faces. I don't know how long we stood around chatting like that but I do remember looking up at the sky once my eyes adjusted.

Wow.

Nice, reminds me of when I first moved back to Illinois from Colorado after a divorce,  riding with friends,  that because we all worked , mostly road at nite, even made up colors to wear, English style crest with axe and spear, rocker said, KNIGHTS OUT. Still have the vest, wear it sometimes when still riding with most of those friends.

Robert,  I am glad you take notice and enjoy the same things I do when riding on a motorcycle. This may sound strange, but I enjoy the smells- (for the most part) you experience when riding a motorcycle rather than a car.  The smell of fresh cut grass,  the morning dew,  the smell of fall leaves, the woods after rain. Too bad I won't be smelling them for another 5 months!

Bill this kind of reminds me of the Indian summers in NY when everything seems just to come together and make a moment in time to be remembered. I did not want to leave untill the bugs started to get bad but it was absolutely beautiful.

On the way home was taking it at an easy pace and got back on to the main road in the middle of the cane fields and was coming up on a car with flashers on the side of the road in the oncoming traffic apron. As I was passing I heard this scream and it was so black I could not see anything but wondered about it. So as I got a little bit down the road decided to turn around and see what was up. I approached the car with high beams on and could not see to well since it was pitch black out.

Turns out it was 3 women stuck with a flat tire the spare was already on the car and the phone she had ran out of batteries so she could not call anyone. NO one would have stopped since they blast along and its like no mans land. Not someone with alot of money and so not much in the way of resources to get herself going. As I stopped and talked to the girl she was so happy that I did stop and thanked me and gave me a big hug and she almost cried. Well she made a couple of calls and respectfully put it on speaker so I could hear also to make sure nothing else was going on. I made sure someone was going to get her and she was ok and left.

My bike had been running the whole time with the high beam on illuminating the car so we would not get hit and I thought about how nice it was to have confidence in my bike that  I did not have to worry about the battery dropping dead or overheating and just heard the fans come on a few times. It was the confidence to know the bike would be able to do what I needed it to do at that time without a problem that allowed me to keep track of what was happening and not have to worry about  my transportation also.

All in all a good ride, great scenery, cool temps and enough adventure to make it feel as if I got out.

Fantastic picture Robert!  Nice of you to stop and help that "damsel in destress".  When my wife retires, I need to seriously think about relocating South.  I don't think I could handle the Florida heat, maybe somewhere in between.  It is tough waiting  4 or 5 months to ride.
