I would like an honest appraisal of the M/S Batwing fairing. Does it provide any better wind protection than a National Cycles Chopped windshield that I currently have on the bike? What are your opinions on how it looks. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have not owned a bike with one, but I have ridden a friend's Valk std with one.
I think it is better than a shield (for total protection; wind, rain, cold, rocks, and hands), but this also depends on how tall a shield you would mount to it. I think they go from a couple inches up to 10 inches, and taller is more big shield-like. But I am a fairing guy (with two interstates), so I'm biased.
Now, the bare-shell inside of the Memphis is not all that attractive (like the IS or a Woody's or a Hog Batwing with radio or gauges), but if you can get past the looks, they work very well. And I think you do not have to move or remount the stock tack and speedo like you do with most all other fairings. And they are cheaper by far than most other fairings.
I think a number of guys have them, hopefully they will chime in.

I had one on my 1100 and I absolutely LOVED it. It provides all the protection you could want and as Jess said, there are shields of all sizes so you can get the one that provides you with just enough wind while at the same time cutting down on the buffeting.
I had mine custom painted, inside and out so the look wasn't bad at all and complimented the paint scheme of the bike. Not having to move gauges and handlebar accessories you already have is a plus. For the stereo, simply mount some 3" bullet speakers on the forks, pointed up at your face and you'll have all the sound you need to roar down the road.
Mounts are available for almost any bike and the batwing can be removed in minutes if you desire.
Riding an Interstate now with the full fairing, spoiled by the Batwing

I’ve got a Memphis Shades batwing with a Longrider recurve shield on my Standard. It's not as good as my Interstate for wind protection but it's as good or better than the factory shield on my Tourer. I would think it would be an upgrade from what you are using now. I sure like mine and will probably put one on my Standard one of these days. As Jess says, no need to move the gauges to fit.

Thanks for the input. I have decided to go with the fairing and a 12 inch windshield. Hopefully will have it by next week

I've run one on both of my Tourers (past and present) since they were available. 12 years?
I went to the Trigger-Lock mount setup...though I really miss the ability to easily swap between the fairing and a clear shield. Unfortunately, Memphis isn't making Trigger-Lock plates for their windshield which work with our Valkyries. As such, I'm looking into modifying a set of Valkyrie-specific Fats mounting plates and adding the locking hardware.
The lack of an inner shell doesn't bother me, as the radio in use aboard my current Tourer has its guts mounted under the bike's trunk (and eventually, in the toolkit section of the battery box). The control head is mounted on the bars. If I want a set of fairing-mount speakers, there are a couple waterproof Yaesu units around here that couple be pressed into service and I'm sure others make them.
Mine has the tallest shield that Memphis makes and I installed their lowers. It's been in a fair share of rainstorms and provides good frontal protection.

I had a batwing on my Tourer that I swapped out for a Woody's so I could have a radio. Both over good wind protection made even better with Baker Air Wings. You do have to relocate speedo and tack with the Woody's but not the Memphis.

Installed the Memphis Shades fairi g on my 98 Standard. It fit well except I had the remove the taped on plastic piece tbat goes ovef the head light. With that off, it fit great. Seems to add some wind protection over my National Cycles shield. I went with the gradientblack 12 inch windshield. Looks great. I'm also going to get the lower deflectors that attach to the fairing.

I made a set of lowers when I had the Bat Wing, out of black PVC. You will have to carve out the bottom to miss the turn signals, but it is easily done with a fine tooth saw and finished with a dremel. Since I add ed the baker airwings, I do not need the lowers. Besides, on the Woody's the turn signals must be lowered a bit.

Sorry, I do not have any photos of the lowers. The batwing has three predrilled holes along the bottom edge on both sides. I used those to attach a piece of black PVC. I had ordered the acrylic lowers from Memphis Shades and used the basic shape for a starting pattern. I did not want to ruin the acyrlic so the PVC were test panels. Worked and looked so well I never swithcem them out. When I sold the batwing, the acylic and the homemade pvc lowers went with it. BTW, the Memphis site claims the lowers will not work with the valk, and they are correct, unless you notch them for the turn signals.
You can buy 1/8" (3mm) pvc on line. Of course other materials will work as well. Acylic, polycarbonate and polystyrene are all possibilities.

You post a link from a photo hosting site. Like the following. Cut and past. Easy once you've done it once or twice. https://postimages.org/
