"That's just like, your OPINION, Man!"

NEAR the "In 'n' Out Burger"

« on: January 03, 2019, 05:34:56 AM »

A lot of folks have asked to have a group ride to Michigan's Upper Peninsula (U P) for a while, so I've been thinking the weekend of Aug 10 is a nice target date.
Halfway between InZane and FCR seems like a good idea, the big issue is hotel room availability.  The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has become a huge tourist destination recently and the old $35 Mom and Pop Yooper Motels are a thing of the past

Gonna try to book Ground Zero rooms (~$80) at a nice place with a restaurant on-site on scenic HWY 2 across from Lake Michigan.

Planned Ground Zero has awesome bison pasties!  cooldude

Target date is flexible due to room availability. Nearly all the Yooper business are closed until Memorial Day, but I need to get headcount idea.

Who is interested? Please respond here.
If a large turnout is anticipated, I have a couple of back-up plans. A Yooper biker friend just bought a resort with cabins, but not on HWY2. Also, he may allow camping on his private property with campfire and such, if anyone is interested.

Let's get a headcount, and a lot of details will get sorted in the next couple months so we can have a great time riding, eating pasties, seeing the sights, and enjoying the hospitality up North!

Hope y'all can make the Yooper Ride 2019!  cooldude

Cheers,

GiG n LuLu

Gig,

Count me as definitely interested! Would love to ride up there again, and I'd really love an excuse to hang with you and Lulu again, too! Would Griz be coming, as well? If not, I might have to swing through Bellevue... miss my bud... actually, I miss all my buds up there! And, such a side-track would offer a revisit opportunity... It is the only place I've ever been escorted to a Bombers Restaurant or tried Captain Crunch French Toast... all in an historically significant area and all thanks to you! I'll wager there are even more unusual things to be discovered!!! I really, really hope this happens!

DDT

P.S. Great photos! Excellent way to showcase a truly interesting part of our continent!!!

Yes! Grizwald is expected to make the trip! He travels extremely well, and misses you.

This should be a real good ride. Look forward to seeing you again, Bruce!

I enjoyed both the InZane's that was in Michigan. Hard for me to plan such a ride I do hope to make InZane in New Mexico and have always wanted to ride back to the U P  . Picture at The Mackinac Bridge.

I am interested in the ride.  The UP has always been on my list of places to ride.

Cant wait to be scared $hitless crossing that bridge being how I just love being pummeled by high winds on a cold metal gridwork   crazy2   2funny

We do have my son's wedding a few weeks earlier in Seattle which will be eating into

Cher and I can probably make it.  Just have to check a few things first.

What's the CLOSEST airport to ground zero.  If I ride, she'll fly.  If I drive, I'll have company which is always nice as she never changes the radio station.

Yo Oss, congrats again on Corey's engagement.  Let's talk about this next poker night.

Wow, lots of interest!  Thanks to all that have responded.

Randy: What a great way to celebrate your birthday!

Dan & Trish: It'll be nice to see you guys!

Mark & Ginger: The date may slide a week earlier or later - hope you guys are able to attend!

Henry008: Hope you are well and able to make the ride, brother!

Michael in MN:  Thanks for the response, hope to see you!

MBramley: Absolutely, we love to initiate newbies. I think Randy (Wizzard) is now in charge of hazing rituals.  The standard Friday ride in,  Saturday day rides, and Sunday closing ceremonies model will be in effect meaning I will try to block rooms for Fri/Sat. I would recommend allowing as much time in the U P as you can, there is a lot to see and really good riding, too.

Bigwolf: So nice to hear you are considering the ride, pleasure to see you !

Thanks again to all, and I hope everyone's August schedule allows for travel this year.

Glad you planning to attend!

Awesome place, Legs, how about the view from the garden?!?

Maybe we should do a side trip to Legs Inn for perogies! Great riding and excellent scenery on Tunnel of Trees.

Do you know the history? Built by a Polish guy out of stick and stones from near Lake Michigan down the bluff behind the Inn.

If that is the place at the end of the Tunnel of Trees Bonnie and I went thru there during the Michigan Inzane the year after my trip to LaCrosse with the VOAi. (RIP)    Man that was hot that summer.

We stopped in the middle of the Tunnel and spent some time reflecting on the nature of the place, then met up with some Valkers at the place with all the antlers   It was a very interesting place for sure

Appreciate the time you are taking to do this as putting a ride together is a labor of love for your fellow riders.

Gary:

The CLOSEST airports won't have service to NY, they serve puddle jumpers. That would probably be Machinaw Island Airport.

You need to look at Traverse City Airport. Not far.
Further downstate, Flint's Bishop Airport I'm sure offers NY service, but Flint is still 300 miles from
St. Ignace.  Don't know Cher's riding limit...

BUT - If Cheryl wants to fly into DTW, LuLu can pick her up and cage it uo to Mackinaw  coolsmiley
