Just watch Reb don't do any flip-flop diving.  We don't want to have to take up a collection to fix a cracked pool.

We're in!  Just gotta iron out some stuff.

I was poking around the interwebs and heard they had some nice beaches up there.  Might stick around after or head out a day or two before to check out the surroundings and go native.

The summer of 2012 was an exception, as we saw temps over 90 and many swimmers out in the waters at Munising, but lake Superior is brutally cold.  Now if one turns left at the Big Mac Bridge and follows the 2 there are miles of great beaches and Lake Michigan is much more tolerable.

Well I just called to book a room for CB and myself.  No room left! No room in either motel and a cabin there is also rented already!  Well crap!  This is shaping up to be a real big time shindig and it looks like myself and CB are gonna be sleeping in the street.   Sad.  Oh well, just another case of snooze you loose.

Go on google maps and look for other motels in Newberry MI.  Maybe there is one near by that can be ground zero 3.0.

Jerry, (based on comments above), it's likely some will cancel reservations at or near the event as unable to attend.  I'd call back and ask to be put on a waiting list (for a call-back, when (not if) it happens).

If they haven't done that before, it's in their own interest to do so.  Ask them to set one up on a first-in, first-called basis.

The google maps idea is a good one.
If I recall correctly, there are 3 or 4 other motels in town, within a couple miles on the same street.

Jim

I stand corrected,
there are 9 hotels, motels, or bed and breakfasts in town. (search Newberry Mi. hotels)
The UP is loaded with them, that is their livelihood.

Me and my Buddy Jack are going, and they have rooms at the Quality Inn a few miles from Ground Zero.  The rates are about $135 a night and they say they are Bike Friendly? If anyone decides they can't make it and has rooms at Ground Zero, Please let me know and we will take the room for u  cooldude

ATTENTION CAMPERS:

After talking to the private landowner up north, we determined our campers' needs could be best suited at a nearby camp ground that offers more amenities (120VAC, Bathrooms, Showers, Water, etc...)

The nearest:

Newberry Campground 13724 State HWY M-28, Newberry, MI 49868   (906) 293-5762   KOA - Less than 3 miles to GZ

OR

Kritter's Camping Cabins
13209 M-123, Newberry, MI
(906) 293R-8562
Highly Rated - Less than 6 miles to GZ.

I fully intend to attend this event and if my son is done with my RV by then I may use it instead of staying at GZ.   If that happens, I will cancel my reservation and let those interested know here on this thread.    Really looking forward to this event.

On a side note, if I can assist anyone traveling through Kentucky to this event, let me know.   We'll do something even if it ain't right.   Wink

Edited: Although I hate going back on my offer to assist any passing through Kentucky, it appears it may be very difficult to accomplish that now since I just sold my home there .   Regardless, I am still planning on attending.

Hello,
Any rough itinerary yet? Booking holidays soon.

Itinerary?
Well, its unprecedented, but since you asked...

Friday - Opening Ceremonies including (but not limited to) Traditional Pool Party, tire kicking, and lie telling. No rockabilly band this year  Sad

Saturday - There will be different rides in order to break up the large group. Destinations will be at the discretion of the Road Captains - but H-58 from Gran Marais to Munising is a must! Details to follow.

Returning to Ground Zero, some of the Yooper-ettes may be hosting a pot-luck style cookout dinner.

8:30pm - Skinhead will perform his "what have you" dance recital

10:00 pm -  Ceremonial Burning of the Underwear

10:30 pm - Yard Time - until the Newberry constabulary arrives...

BUMP back to the top.

While I have several other priorities going on right now, I am keeping this ride close to the top of the list.   Most likely won't be able to ride up there from KY, I still lack the stamina for a long distance ride but, I can load the fat lady up and trailer her up there.   Do a short ride or two and visit with my friends.

Hated missing InZane this year but, it just wasn't meant to be.
