Hey Gig and LuLu,
This ride "get together"is a strong possibility for Nancy and I.
Further details when possible.

Thanks,

Ron--Hope your up for this.  We could ride together.  Maybe team up with Pais from Kent and Henry from Willard, and anyone else from Buckeyeland--Roger, Alpha Dog, maybe Mark 81, but I have not been able to contact him.  I'm getting more and more interested.

General information:
U P is closed until May, that is very few businesses are open. No big announcements until then.
Last year in August, rooms at Holiday Inn Munising were $400 and rare.
This trip is conceived to be be the more affordable mom and pop type motels to keep costs low. We are trying hard to keep the room cost under $100 / night.
The huge response will necessitate multiple “Ground Zero” motels. We are trying to get motels near one another.
We are working with the few open resorts, but nothing can be finalized until spring.
Heck, Even the government shutdown has conspired to delay our plans!
This is going to be a fun one!  cooldude
Stay tuned...

Have you locked in a date or is this part of the Hotel/Motel decision?

Hey Gig,

This sounds like a great idea for a ride.  We may be interested in going but just needed to get a few more details.

    -  What will the weather be like for the ride?  We're hoping for pleasantly warm, not too humid and
        NO RAIN.

     -  How much will gas cost?  We prefer it to be less than $2.00 per gallon considering the fact that
the Valkyries aren't exactly gas sippers.

     -  The UP is far enough North that mosquitoes aren't an issue, right?

     -  Bambi is wondering if Grizwold will be able to provide services as well.

     -  What is the expected travel time from Central Illinois to ground zero?  1 - 2 hours?

     -  Will the reflection off of the lake make my butt look big?

     -  Does the UP have dry counties?  If so, can we avoid them?

     -  Will this ride contain the usual group of ne'er-do-wells?

If you are able to accommodate these needs, sign us up!

Thanks,

Mitch, Laura & Bambi

Hey Mitch, I don't ya, but I love your "requirements" here, couldn't help but laugh all the way thru them. Looking forward to meeting ya up there. Gary

The date and Hotel are set.
You can book now:

Park a Way Motel
 Newberry, MI
906 293-8342

say "GiG Up North" Aug 9 & 10.
Rooms range from $62 to $84 depending.

The "Evening Star" Motel is on the same property,  same PH #, same owner. Has nice pool with retractable roof, near Tahquamenon Falls.

  Rams,
That's great, which Valk did you buy? Seems to always be a few for sale. Would of been great to hear from you. Now that date(s) is set, I'm good to go, calendar is empty and work a non issue.
Hopefully this group can get together for the trip North. I will keep my eyes and ears open!

Found her on Craigslist, just a 99 Standard but she was priced right and seems to be in very nice condition.   Had a friend test ride her for me.    Once I'm able, I'll start putting some bling on her that I was able to save from my other Valkyrie.    Really looking forward to riding the UP.   I get up that way now and then but I'm always hauling something and don't have time to enjoy the scenery.

Terry from Lexington and I will most likely join up with this band of misfit travelers.
Not 100% sure I won't be towing my Valkyrie but, planning on attending one way or another.

Newberry, MI.  This is a great choice for a staging area for eastern and central UP.  The wife and myself stayed in Newberry ( Quality Inns and Suites, the one with the moose ) on our wedding night, July 18, 1998.  We got married at her family's lake house on Manistique Lake, maybe 25 minutes away.
The next morning we went back to the lake house only to find her nephew had gotten arrested and taken to the Soo, I believe.  He passed out partying with all my softball buddies on North Manistique Lake during the after reception party.   When he woke up he went inside to sleep except it was the neighbors house and they did not appreciate it.  Josh was only 17 at the time and my  father in law blamed my buddies and us.  Not a great start to our honeymoon around Lake Superior, but it has made for a lot of laughs for my buddies over the years.

Oswald's Bear Ranch in on the outskirts of Newberry.  Dean usually has 25 to 30 bears at all ages and the young ones are comical at play.  Also a short distance up to Tahquamenon falls, Whitefish Point, and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.  A ride over to Grand Marias is good and I hear the H58 heading to Munising is quite good.  Of course in Munising you have the spectacular Pictured Rocks boat tourer.

Fazer -  I am going to do my best to go.  However so  many plans of mine get blown up over the years due to my business, but I think I can make this work and hopefully ride up with your group.  I told the wife last night to contact her Aunt to see if the Lake house is available these dates.  She may insist that I drive up with her and my son of 16 since it is 500 miles and thus tow my bike.  She does not understand biking but tolerates it.  She does love that Lake house her Grandfather built and it was a integral and memorable part of her life until her Mother passed 3 years ago.

Gig--sure camping is still an option.  I hadn't read anymore about it and did not want to get closed out of the motel.  I can cancel the motel but will wait to see if the camp ground thing is happening.
