Waiting for my Partzilla order to show up so I can repair my driveshaft and pinion cup. I thought I'd pull the tank and start my de-smog procedure. The thermometer in my unheated garage showed 26 degrees this afternoon. Just getting the hoses to release from where they were connected was a chore, since the "flex" in the rubber was not present today. Getting the airbox out was a real hoot. I can say with certainty that the airbox lower will be headed in the house a few hours prior to the hog tie procedure before it gets installed again.

On a side note, I'm removing the K+N air filter and putting a stock element back in. The thin foam "pre cleaner"; is that stock or did that come with the K+N? I didn't see it in the part picture on Partzilla of the factory airbox components.

Ugh working in the cold... I'm in SC, but my "unheated garage" is the outside.
Would your garage heat up some with a couple of (safe) space heaters?



There's a lot of different opinions about the K&N air filters, I like OEM the best too.

I have a couple space heaters, but when I try to use them, the heat goes straight up and out of the garage, into the roof (no ceiling). I thought about adding one to enclose the space, but I store stuff on the rafters and hang things here and there, too. It's a single bay attached to the house (ranch style with a breezeway in between). I tell myself that my new shop will be heated/cooled. When I'll ever get it built, I don't know. Still hopeful, though.

Yeah, you're doomed without a ceiling... it looks like it goes up to 50 or so
in some places in Massachusetts a day or two next week...

A roll of visqueen stapled to the rafters is relatively cheap and works pretty well.

The thin foam is not OEM, goes with the K&N. Don't forget you will need the rubber gaskets for your air box when going back to OEM.

Unless Mendon has specific codes against it, you can build a shed up to 200 sq ft w/o a permit.  No frost protection foundation needed.  That's 10x20, or 12x16, pretty good size for a bike shop.  Insulated walls & ceiling and a small electric heater would warm it up nice.  Just saying.

One of my bikes came with a K&N.  I changed it back to OEM.
