On my new to me Interstate, the PO had a Hondaline leather tank bib on it for many years. It has discolored the paint (brown streaks along the entire length of the tank). I am guessing the discoloration is on the clear coat only. How would you remove the discoloration?

Polisher (or buffer if you can handle it) and Maguires Ultimate compound.

This is a decal, no idea how much clear coat maybe on top of it. Suggestion given is a good start. Then apply another coat of clear.

If you are sure it is only stained or faded into the clear coat, find some 2000 grit wet sand paper and lightly sand with it wrapped in a soft sponge. It will take a very small layer of the clear off.
Then find someone that has a SLOW speed buffer, and buff with some rubbing compound. When it is gone, buff with some polish.
