I took my bike out today for the first ride of the season and damn near got killed. As I was riding along about 10 miles from home doing about 55 mph my bike jumped violently in the air and almost threw me to the ground. Luckily I was able to maintain control and get myself off the road so I could try and see what had happened. Once off the road I saw my side stand just dangling so I figured my side stand spring broke and the side stand had hit the ground and kicked me in the air like that. After my heart rate slowed down some I was able to rig up a way to hold my side stand up and headed home. Once home I wanted to lift my bike up to look underneath to see how the spring was attatched and see what was needed to fix it. It was at that point I realized my jack adapter was missing. So thats what threw me in the air like that. The damn thing fell off and I ran it over. It must have bounced off the road cause I didn't see it once I pulled over. Luckily it didn't ruin my new rear tire or send me to the hospital. It did dent under the swing arm and put a gouge in my rear wheel besides taking the side stand spring off. So check those bolts if you have a bolt on adapter.

Talk about a narrow miss. Good to still have the rubber side down.
Good point. Sounds like it might be an annual maintenance issue. Check those mounting bolts.
Maybe some permanent LocTite?

Since you probably do not carrier a jack with you and would need to find one, maybe who ever would have the jack would also have a couple pieces of wood. This may be a safer method.
Also a center stand may be another option.

Had the same thing happen 2up on a gravel road. And that’s how I dumped my first Valkyrie in front of a park ranger and state highway patrol. The previous owner had installed it and the nylock nuts had somehow backed off. I had stopped for gas and the kickstand was dangling. About 30 minutes later I figured out why as I was laying in front of two cops on a gravel road. The adapter stopped me dead in my tracks when the tire hit it as I was only barely idling in gear. Flop there I lay. She wasn’t happy about it either but that’s a whole other story. Btw it was this one that fell off https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F170943480226

Pretty terrifying pucker moment right there. My first spring project will be to Loc-Tite the bolts on both adapters.

I say in my install instructions for my permanent lift adapter, "Use blue Loctite if you worry about vibration loosening." I haven't done that with mine - this horror story makes me think that might be something I want to do for peace of mind. Though there have been no such reports with my adapter, and it doesn't use or touch the sidestand mount so it appears Svsteve's issue was not with my adapter. It wouldn't take but a couple minutes to loctite mine as you could leave the adapter mounted and remove & loctite the nuts one at a time.

I have zero idea why anyone needs a lift adapter of any sort. I have used a larin lift since day one. 3/4" thick piece of wood just on the rear lift bar and position both on the back end of the engine. lifts tourer level. then strap the bike to the lift. if I'm mainly working on just the front end, like front tire change then no wood piece, still strap down. simple.

I love mine. Prob. the best item I've bought for my Valk. I know when was loosening the nuts they were very tight. So red loctite and Retighten same as factory as you loosened as I did and no problems. Good idea to check periodically though. Mine still the same as install.

I also have the Ebay lift adaptor. It been on my Valk since 2009, a year after I got her. I just checked the nuts. They are as tight as when in installed it nearly 10 years ago, wow how time flies. NO, I didn't use anything other than just some extra push on the wrench on the nuts.

I'll stick with my Spoonland adapter. It might take a few minutes to attach, but I rarely have to lift the bike.

I checked mine after I read this...They were still as tight as when I installed it...I did use Blue Locktite when I installed it...I really enjoy having it always there when I need to lift my Lady...It was a great investment...!!!
