Before putting the valkyrie up for the winter the front two cylinders went dead. The second set fire weakly. The rear pair fire strong. Compression is equal in all cylinders. The carbs were rebuilt over the winter as I had planned to do anyway. I swapped around the coils with no change. All cylinders have some spark but the front two will not fire even with a bit of starting fluid. The air box is removed right now. I can't think of anything else than some kind of trouble with the ignition module or one of the two spark pickup coils in front going bad. Warm weather is coming and it is time to ride ! HELP !

I would guess ignition coils.

If you increase the idle to 1500-2000 rpm, do the front two cylinders start working. Carbs might be way out of sync.

do the fuel bowls have fuel in them? are the bowl vent hoses routed properly and no critters? idle mixture screws adjusted correctly?

It's odd that the problem is paired like that two by two. The coils would have been my first bet.
I would double check battery and fuel flow to carbs. If theat is good I'd say it's the carbs

You say you have spark at all of the cylinders. If you remove the front plugs and plug them into the plug wires and ground them against the engine and start it, you should see the plugs firing. If they are, then it isn’t the coils or ignition, it is a fuel problem. Make sure you don’t have your floats in a bind under the bowls. If they are stuck closed, then you will not get fuel into the carbs. You can try firmly tapping against each of the csrb bodies to free up the floats while it’s running and see if that helps.

Spark is spark. I'd put it to a carburetor problem that wasn't corrected with the work performed over the wintertime.

yes indeed, great point to bring up Chris, battery issue. this ignition system needs minimum 10.5 volts with starter turning.

Thank you all for the input.I pulled the carb set (Tank and airbox were not on yet) . While everything was off I tested the coils 2 cyl. at a time for spark and tested each cyd. with a tiny bit of start fluid. Then with all six and the valk roared to life for two seconds. It is clear I had a fuel delivery problem. With the carbs on the bench we will proceed. Thanks again everyone.

If you are sure all your jets are clear and your floats are not hanging up, I'd take IndyBobs advice and check the carb synch.

Another thing you can check is their fuel inlet tubes. The front two carbs receive their fuel from the middle carbs. (The OEM fuel line “T’s” off to directly supply the rear four carbs first. The front two carbs are the “red headed stepchildren” in the fuel delivery system.

If it's a fuel delivery issue, I have to ask. Do you have the stock petcock or has the inlet line been modified? Do you have a solenoid valve and/or filter?

Critters and vent hoses, probably explains the mess i found dried onto the side of one of my floats today, as well as all my stock 35 idle jets blocked again. I think ill take some kind of screen and cap over those vent hoses.
