Is there a plug and play out there? How have others felt with the wiring?

No plug and play that I'm aware of. This is what I used.

Nope. It's all research and hunting. Mine has vampire connectors, which I'll be removing and seeing if my new connectors will fit the OEM ones, and I'll make a custom extension with an off line to the converter for the trailer.

If not, then it'll be a hard wire and wrapped/soldier wire. I bought a couple of trailer wire extensions, male/female. Cut them in the middle. Connect one to the OEM wire harness, and then other to the converter. This way I can remove it when not being used for the trailer.

Also, I've had 2 converter failures with my new to me bike and trailer. I'm going to re-wire the trailer, remove all connections and direct wire soldier them. Then try to replace all the lights to LED. Figure it'll reduce the draw and possibly brighter lights. Also add some side marker lights too.

Just to be clear. I don't recommend using those splicers that come with the kit. I made up bullet connectors. Or soldered splices.  cooldude

My trailer has all LED lights so with such a small amp pull I just piggy backed the wires from the pigtail right into the main harness connector. No cutting, no splicing. If I unplug the pigtail there would be no evidence there ever was one. Has worked for 14 years or so.
