I have an obnoxious squeaking noise from my 2000 Interstate coming from the back end of the bike, it happens when I go over a bump or if  I just bounce lightly up and down on my seat.
I think its the shocks or the rubber shock bushings but didn't know if it could be anything else.
and if it is the shocks, what can I do to fix the noise???  and also I am a big guy, 384lbs so maybe that has something to do with it?? but it just started the end of last years riding season
Thanks in advance for any replies

What seat do you have?  One of my Ultimate seats makes a bad squeak from the back rest.

What comes to mind for me is my driver's seat backrests.  They all squeak a bit, and more with bumps and if you move around on the seat.  Oil on the post does very little.  The seat itself will also squeak on the rubber feet it sits on, and you can Armorall (or oil) them which quiets them down for awhile.

I finally wrapped my backrest post, as tight as I could pull, with a single layer of duct tape.  That worked; no more squeaks.  But I forgot about it, and months later, it had melted into goop, and was extremely hard to pull it out, and it was a real mess on the post, and down in the slot.  So don't do that.

Brakes can always squeak, but from what you report, that doesn't sound like the problem.

my top luggage carrier rattles a ton over any slight bump, but not really a squeak but could be different from one interstate top box to the next being the sound difference.

I test drove a newer goldwing last week and the guy used felt tape all around the bottom portion of the top lid, probably a good idea to do?

Top Box rattle when solo.
I tried many different fixes to stop the top box lid from rattling. Than I finally rebuilt the hinges, no more rattling.

Shock bushings may also cause wobbles or other handling issues.  They are easy enough to check, If the bolt and mounting boss isn't centered in the shock eye (mounting hole that contains the bushing(s)), replace them.  I don't recall them ever squeaking, but I suppose if they are bad enough that you have metal to metal contact it would be possible.

THIS!  cooldude Jist fer yuks and giggles check the 4 mounting bolts-8MM head-in each saddle bag. Also check the bolts on the bag frame. Do you have the trunk locked when riding? And are the saddle bags latched closed when riding? I might think of something else later on. RIDE SAFE.

It's a long shot but if all above fails check for rusted swingarm bearings.

I've seen this many times over the years, remove the backrest from the riders seat and see if its still there.

I have the Ultimate king seat set for rider and passenger, plus the driver backrest..the seats make no noise.
I ride with both saddlebags locked and the trunk closed securely , the noise seems to be more from the shock area , or the swingarm area..I will check the bushings tonight and maybe just spray some lubricate on them and hope that cures the noise.
Thanks for all the good places to look

If it was the backrest, you'd know.  It would squeak while just sitting stationary and putting back pressure on it.

I'd take the seat off and sit on the frame.  Might help to pinpoint it.

ok I think I found the culprit making all the noise, I think its either the driver side shock bushing, or the shock itself.
I was able to locate the area where the noise was coming from, and spayed a little lubricating fluid on the the bushing and the top area of the shock, it quieted the noise down, but went riding yesterday and somewhere along the 300 mile ride, the squeaking returned.
The bushing looks a little deformed, like it has been over tightened and squished some of the rubber bushing. Could that be the culprit ?

The bushing just gets deformed from use and the vertical-well canted-motion is transitioned to the bushing which deforms the bushing. Replace uppers and lower bushings-4 total=top and bottom on each shock. First time I figured out What was wrong I had a pretty good wobble coming down an off ramp throttle rolled off and just about turned into a tank slapper!  Lips Sealed That'll git yer tenshun!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

Yes. Try some of the bushings for the VTX. They are 2 piece units that hold up much better.

VTX bushings are not split into two pieces.  There is at least one aftermarket bushing that is, but not the ones from Honda.

The shocks on my Tourer started to squeak (actually more like a creak) on the rebound from larger bumps, like when entering a driveway.  I replaced them with second-hand Interstate shocks that had fewer miles on them and the creak disappeared.  At first I suspected swing-arm bearings and shock bushings.

My bad  Sad I have both the VTX ones and the aftermarket green ones. I get them mixed up.

ok I am going to replace the shock bushings and hope that cures it, really don't want to buy new shocks right now...if it comes to buying new shocks, how good are the Progressive 444's....I am a fat guy ,but slowly losing the weight...377lbs now, at the last Inzane I was at 424lbs...I usually ride solo but would like a shock that can handle me plus any luggage or a passenger .
Once again thanks for all your helpful replies
