Kate Smith's rendition of 'God Bless America' banned by the Yankees and other teams because she had previously sang songs with racist lyrics. Songs that were the norm in the day. We have become a nation of morons.

OK I googled it and what the F$&k is wrong with people that recording was made 80 yrs ago. 80 years. A lot has changed since then. Well hell ai shouldnt be surprised a ton of radio stations banned the song “Baby it’s cold outside”  DUMBASSES the lot Of them. |

Those songs were common in that era. Try to find entertainers that did not sing similar songs. Music, movies, literature. Lets pick a year and wipe out everything before that and start over. Comes close to making laws retroactive.

A powerful and beautiful voice of a beloved patriotic song. PC has struck again.
I don't like or appreciate a lot of different musicians productions/performances but some stand out and stand alone as great. Kate's rendention of God Bless America is the best I have ever heard. The Politically Correct folks are really missing the boat on this one. She's been gone for thirty years, does any really thinks she (or anyone else) cares?

The Philadelphia news is reporting that the one song was part of a play that was meant to be a statement against racism...was a sort of parody.
Many people seem to be or are desperately looking for a chance to be offended. Reparations are making a comeback as talking points for the 2020 elections.
Things sure have gone to hell.

"God Bless America" is an American patriotic song written by Irving Berlin during World War I in 1918 and revised by him in the run up to World War II in 1938. The later version has notably been recorded by Kate Smith, becoming her signature song Of course the Yankees are rudderless since George Steinbrenner died.
My mom loves God bless America and sings it all the time in fact she sang it during the seder yesterday. We gave thanks for being free people in a country where we can practice our religion and live as we see fit. How few people in the world can do the same. Give thanks.

And believe me, I'm ecstatic that iPhones, YouTube, Facebook wasn't around when I was growing up (or even into my 30's. But if I were the owner of a team or event, I doubt I'd want to be endorsing her rendition. That was some condescending, racist crap on the video/song. So, was Kate Smith a raving racist? Of course not.
She sang a couple of songs, probably others as well, penned by songwriters of the time and done well.
Pickaninny was the equivalent of Rugrat. Of the black persuasion of course, but still just the equivalent of Rugrat. A kid.
She didn't sing that they should be killed or hung. And the song "That's why Darkies were born" was a satirical piece.
But Hell, she's dead, lets pick on her.
At least they waited till after she died to crucify her.

I don't care what your race, sex, national origin (assuming they have legal status) or religion is as long as you pull you own weight and can qualify for what ever you do or want to do. Cultures and times change. Meathead makes a ridiculous statement. I doubt if there is ANYTHING said that isn't disputed by someone. After all, California isn't the only home for those who disagree about everything.
As a old geezer who has the Faith, I'm saying right now that the moral standards that religions have established have been thrown out, no longer do some have the moral direction and responsibility that religion demands.

Ridiculous ? Just because the majority of the people at the time were ok with blatant racism doesn’t mean it’s alright. I imagine most of black people, civil rights people, and just plain fair minded people were not ok with it. As far as other songs going back that were "racist" by today's meaning, you won't pin that on me either.
i served in the military. I had no problem with blacks or others. We were all in the same boat......equal!
In fact when I rotated home I gave my Old Spice facial powder to my replacement . The next morning he had used it on his face. He was black, black. I didn't see him as black and I think that he knew what he was doing when he used it.
