Any older Colt revolver are well made. My favorite is the Anaconda  cooldude

I've a friend who got Colt's new Detective Special, and he likes it fine.

Colt's and Smith's cylinders turn in different directions.   (and other differences)

There's no such thing as finishing a Smith revolver collection.  Mine is pretty good, but there's a few others I'd like (older ones), but they are hard to find, and spendy when you do.

Plus, I like royal blue over stainless, but most new revolvers are all stainless (which is a more durable finish, but it's not like I leave them out in the lawn for weeks on end).

Top of the list is a Mod 27 in 3.5"bbl.  (really steep in price, and N frames are pretty heavy)

So I got a new Performance Center L frame 686 plus (7 shooter), which is cheaper and lighter than a used L frame  mod 27 six shooter. (though it has that blasted lock on it)

The lack of adjustable sights, means I will not be buying one. Another poor choice by Colt.
Especially in 357(/38) where they are so many different loads and bullet weights.

Nice looking revolver, ugly rubber grips. (another poor choice by Colt)

It seems in recent history Colt makes business decisions on the premise of "what is the worst decision I can make, that will result in least number of sales".

I am really sad that Colt is not managed very well and I fear they may ultimately be successful in running themselves out of business. I really hate to see that.

I didn't see the fixed sight thing Pete.  That is definitely a deal breaker in a 4" combat magnum.

On the other hand, it didn't bother me at all in a $250 Smith Model 10 (4").

Collection is not complete but the rack is

Been trying to find if it’s made with an eight inch barrel

I’ve got two, four and six (inch barrels) so that would be “next”

Model 27's are N frames.
Early and some later models are 6 shot, some later newer issue are 8 shot.

There was a special limited run a few years ago of 8 shot 3.5 inch barrel registered magnum model 27's. The new price at the time was about $1000.

Some Smith 686 L-frames came in 8 3/8" bbls (don't know if they do at present, but there are used ones available)

That's a bit long for me; my two Ruger .44mags have 7 1/2" bbls.

https://www.google.com/search?q=smith+686+8+3/8+bbl&client=firefox-b-1&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwin3f7T5OjhAhWrq1kKHacqCC0Q_AUIDigB&biw=1424&bih=657

This 7 1/2" Redhawk will do forehead shots at 50 yards. (but heavy and a kicker)
