I really dislike the trigger. Good on price though. I would hold out for a Glock or a Springfield XD myself.

taurus makes some nice guns. i kinda took a liking for the Judge but it's too big for a carry gun for me. personally i have a glock 23 (40 cal) and never had a misfire. plus with the proper holster i can hide it almost as easily as my 38 detective special.

I have one in stainless. Nice concealed carry gun. I would buy it again. It has a lifetime warranty for the life of the gun, not owner, so its made right. Mine does not have 3 dot sights, but the Heinie "Straight Eight" is the only thing I don't like. I have put quite a few rounds through it without a FTF. Its not on the same level as some of the high dollar guns, but for the money you cant go wrong. I think I gave rith a $350 for mine.

Definitely big enough to scare someone but I doubt it would be very accurate without a lot of practice. Personally, I've never been able to hit anything with a short barrel. I've owned a few semi-auto but cared for them. My own gun is a 44 special revolver with a 6" barrel. It doesn't kick as much as a mag and I don't have to kick in a shell if I need it quick. Of course, I leave it loaded and keep it away from the grands. Also, they have been taught to leave my stuff alone.

I like the lifetime guarantee.....really don't know anything about the gun itself....pick a caliber you can find ammo for.....380 in this area (southwest Virginia) is not to be had.

I have a Taurus PT-945SS and it is a nice gun. It looks exactly like this one...I think they maybe just changed the model line name. http://www.taurususa.com/product-details.cfm?id=378&category=Pistol&toggle=&breadcrumbseries=I haven't shot it in a while (like about 8 years!!), though. I really need to get some reloading done and go punch some holes in some paper. It is really fun shooting that...along with my Ruger Super Redhawk in 44mag.

Taurus revolvers are great for the money. Their semi's are a different story. I've seen multitudes of rants about them for every 1 good story. Easy to find if Googled. Also have read numerous posts about their "warranty" being great unless you need to use it. Reports of horrendous turn around times only to recieve it back no better than before. I say save some more nickles for a Glock or Smith M&P. XD's are great but very wide wich makes concealing much tougher . YMMV, Good Luck .

I have two Glocks both .40's, completely reliable and completely ugly.
My carry these days is a S&W Centennial, also reliable AND nice to look at.
I recently bought a Bersa .380 Thunder, also completely reliable.
I normally am very cautious in buying semiautos especially if the reliability is unknown and especially if the price is lower. I had a Keltec 3AT , IMHO a good example of what not to have in a carry gun.
If the Taurus has a good reputation for reliability, buy it but research it first.

Our experiences with Taurus semi-autos has been mixed. We purchased a PT-111 that was both reliable and durable (although the loooong trigger pull did little to aid accuracy). It was light and easy to hide, and due to the low purchase price we had little anxiety at occasionally leaving it in the glove box of the car when we entered places where it could not legally be carried.
Based on this relatively positive experience, we purchased an early PT-145 that had to return to the factory twice because of a cracked frame. After the second trip, we had seen enough; and came to the conclusion that the PT series of Taurus pistols was a good concept that may not have been executed well.
This was a few years ago, and it may be that the newer generations of these pistols are improved. We recommend you proceed with caution.
We trudge on.

I have that pistol in 45ACP. Not really pleased with it. I carry a KelTec P3AT (.380) most of the time. As previous poster mentioned, .380 is getting difficult to find, and when you do the price is steep. I just purchased the Taurus Judge Public Defender (.45/410) for concealed with sufficient clothing to hide it. http://www.taurususa.com/product-details.cfm?id=662&category=Revolver&toggle=tr&breadcrumbseries=41

I have that same firearm in both the 9 mm and 45 ACP and like them both. I'm actually thinking about getting one in the .40 too. It's the only small frame hand gun that I can hit anything with

My carry pistols are simple. Glock 23. A gazillion cops can't be wrong. Course when I was the Senior Instructor for my dept, I picked it as the new duty weapon. My other carry pistol is God's own handgun in God's own caliber as designed by the God's own gun designer, John Moses Browning. The 1911. Mine is a Kimber Custom TLE.

I have that in the 9mm. Only put one box of metal chunks through it but not had a problem. Feels good, shoots good. I can't really say about accuracy because I'm still new to handguns and even newer to semis. I was shooting at a metal silhouette target from about 35 yds and I got to where I could make it "ping" almost every time. I have a bad habit of jerking the trigger. Gotta work on that. Like the gun. I know several people that carry them.

Check out the Rohrbaugh R9, if your looking for a pocket pistol. I ride with one of the guys that make these and I can tell you the workmanship is outstanding. There a little too expensive for me so I'll stay with my old PPK. www.rohrbaughfirearms.com

From what I understand, Ruger LCP's are flying out the door with a subsequent increase in demand for .380 ammo. All ammo is in short supply because of the distrust of our present Fed government.

When I asked that same question at the gunshop I go to, I was told the .380 is an "off-size" caliber that is not used by anyone but private individuals and that factories are geared to run .38 caliber and 9 mm ammo since they're used by others than just private individuals, i.e., law enforcement & military. He said the factories have to stop running the .38 or 9 mm line and change out the machinery to run the .380, so they don't do it much and therefore not only is it made in limited supplies, it costs more to make. Don't know if that's a correct answer, but it sounds good and I'm sticking with it! Dave

thanks for the input. still undecided. SugarB, you didn't say what the intended purpose for your purchase was. Is it primarily for carry, or home defense? If it's carry, it's OK, but you should do some web search to see what ammo is most accurate and reliable in it, and then verify it yourself. That pistol is liable to have ammo preferences. You must function fire your chosen expensive defense ammo to ensure it is utterly reliable. This is always true, but especially with the Taurus. I cannot speak to the trigger in that pistol, but if it is atrocious, you may want to get it worked on or look at something different. If your purchase is for home defense, I would get a larger, longer barrel pistol; at least 4".

I have had great luck with taurus PT series pistols. The first couple I had in 9mm had a miserable trigger, gritty and did not seem to release at same point every time (I think that was actually me,not the gun) . The titanium slide made recoil alot harsher than the steel slide because of the lighter weight. My newer pt145 has much improved trigger pull and the ergonomic changes to the grip make it very nice to shoot and accurate too. All in all the newest of the series are just fine. My only complaint is that it is very hard and dangerous to "decock" it with one in the chamber. Carrying with the safety on defeats the purpose (IMHO) and with one in the chamber and the hammer cocked kind of makes me wonder why carry a DAO semiauto in the first place because that makes work like a single action, even tho' the shorter trigger pull on the first round is nice. For carry I prefer my P3AT from kel-tec. It is TINY ! and a true DOA even with one in the pipe the trigger has to rooster it. 380 ammo is way harder to find lately but my .380 is not a target shooter or a plinking gun. It is for self defense so I dont plan to put a thousand rounds a year thru' it .At self defense range I really dont care about ballistics and accuracy out to 40 yards! It is for close up work and only needed until I can get cover or get out the BIG Iron! And I NEVER had a Ruger I didnt like but have no experience with the LCP YMMV but that is my 2 cents.

Local dealer told me its because of the Ruger LCP its the best selling hand gun on the market and folks want ammo for it. Actually, ammo for the .380 started drying up before the LCP became widely known and has been getting harder to find for the better part of a year now. Last fall, I purchased 2,000 rounds of ball ammo and a couple boxes of hollow points at Wally World for a reasonable price. This past August I bought the LCP at a gun show and .380 ammo was scarce. I finally found 4-boxes of Remington Golden Sabers ......for $30/box of 25. I don't used them to plink

I like my Thunder .380. Mines the Plus so it holds 15 rounds. I have noticed, which I didn't like, is the saftey for the clip. It won't fire unless the clip is in. A month ago I was shooting and had to hold up on the clip in order for it to fire. Last sunday I fixed it. I moved the spring thingy at the top of the clip on the right side out and down a little. All is good now! Gun Show this weekend at the Coliseum.

Well , went to the Gun Show this morning and no 380 ammo in sight. So I bought a Ruger LCP that shoots 380`s. But found a good price, 287.00, on one, some guys were asking 350.00. Looks like a good carry or back up gun.

Looks like a good carry or back up gun. So, now that you have the LCP .380 and "no ammo in sight".... I'm hoping it is really accurate ..... for you when you have to throw it at a perp because you can't shoot it. But at least you can practice that technique on the cheap without the cost of lead and brass. Let us know how that works out for ya..... I have an AMT 380, and I even have some ammo for it. But I got an AMT 380 which is stainless and kinda heavy.... so when 2 clips run out I still got a little brick I can throw at em. 9mm is more or less plentiful and a common caliber, and I recommend that due to availability (and more knock down than 380). I was at WalMart last night and there was a good bit of 9mm on the shelves (finally), and zero 380. But I was there to get 38SPCL ammo.... only had 2 boxes and I got em both. I have a few different 9mms and still want the KelTec PF9 for my primary CCW. I will admit that the 380 is a small compact weapon, but the availability of 380 ammo is limited and expensive, so plinking or practicing will be slim to none with that gun.
