Well , went to the Gun Show this morning and no 380 ammo in sight. So I bought a Ruger LCP that shoots 380`s. Undecided But found a good price, 287.00, on one, some guys were asking 350.00. Looks like a good carry or back up gun.  Wink

So, now that you have the LCP .380 and  "no ammo in sight"....  I'm hoping it is really accurate ..... for you when you have to throw it at a perp because you can't shoot it.   But at least you can practice that technique  on the cheap without the cost of lead and brass.  Let us know how that works out for ya.....   Grin

I have an AMT 380, and I even have some ammo for it.  But I got an AMT 380 which is stainless and kinda heavy....  so when 2 clips run out I still got a little brick I can throw at em.

9mm is more or less plentiful and a common caliber, and I recommend that due to availability (and more knock down than 380).  I was at WalMart last night and there was a good bit of 9mm on the shelves (finally), and zero 380.  But I was there to get 38SPCL ammo.... only had 2 boxes and I got em both.  I have a few different 9mms and still want the KelTec PF9 for my primary CCW.  I will admit that the 380 is a small compact weapon, but the availability of 380 ammo is limited and expensive, so plinking or practicing will be slim to none with that gun.

Well, I`m not totaly out of 380`s, I have about 3/4 of a fifty box.  Wink I sold a 380 at the show for $400 and had these left over. Jess, thanks for the links. CABELAS is on back-order on 380`s at this time in smaller boxes.

I think this will ease up come spring and we can buy 380`s, not cheap, but buy.  Roll Eyes

Check out ammunitiontogo.com. I've always had good service and luck there.

I have the .40 cal Taurus, and have found it great for concealed carry.  Out of the box accuracy is surprizingly good, so good in fact, my 14 yr. old daughter can hit center mass at 30 ft 7/10 rounds.  The cost was $299, which was a good bargain!

Sorry, I did not know it was all on back order, the site does not say so when shopping (like most of the other ammo sites I use).

I don't have a .380 (just most of the other calibers).

My carry pistols are simple.  Glock 23. A gazillion cops can't be wrong.  Course when I was the Senior Instructor for my dept, I picked it as the new duty weapon.  My other carry pistol is God's own handgun in God's own caliber as designed by the God's own gun designer, John Moses Browning.  The 1911.  Mine is a Kimber Custom TLE.  Grin

I am pushing my agency towards the G-21SF and I agree with you on God's own, mine's a Para LDA..........

No biggie... I was just addressing the shortage/demand and cost for that caliber.  I attempted to add those items to my cart to see IF they had it etc... and all was "backorder" for like 3 weeks.  I don't know if they would/could have got it in within 3 weeks or not.  Most other web sites are short on that as well.   I have a few boxes of .380, but I don't like to range shoot that one based on the cost and availability.   9mm had that problem for awhile (ah, since the election results I think... LOL) but it appears that it is lightening up on 9mm a little bit, but the prices are going up.  As you know, all ammo prices have gone up, and if you have a gun you very well should have ammo for it or it is useless, other than a brick (handgun) or stick (rifle).  Ammo prices continue to go up and up..... and I think people are stocking up on what they can now.  So based on the LCP or KelTec 380 guns sales, the 380 ammo should be scarce but might loosen up down the road as well.  That don't help the price none tho.....

My carry weapon. My sidearm for 13 years in the Coast Guard, continued to carry for the last 15 years. I have many handguns and many calibers, this is what I'm trained with, this is what I shoot best.

SugarBear, That's a real nice pistol, good company, fine caliber choice, great warranty.
Handguns and self defense is WORSE than motorcycle opinions, tire and oil combined.
I believe you should find one person you trust, visit the gun store, hold them in your hand, what feels right for YOU. If you know someone who owns what your interested in, try to fire before you buy.
Proper TRAINING is important, then practice, practice, practice. You can gather folks opinions, but the bottom line is YOU gotta shoot it and YOU gotta be comfortable with it.
If ya can't hit your target, you souldn't be carrying. Practice handling and gun safety at home, practice loading unloading at home, practice dry firing at home, practice sight alignment at home, practice proper grip at home. Practice handling your weapon in low light conditins at home. Home it's free, learn and practice the basics at home. Practice, practice, practice until it's a part of you. Kind of like being one with your motorcycle.
Good luck choosing, there's plenty of fine weapons to choose from cooldude

I have carried alot of different guns, started with revolvers, then mainly glocks and Sig Sauers for duty.  I always advise someone carrying concealed for personal protection to get a hammerless 357.. the reason is that if a lady is carrying it, it can be shot from the purse without having to worry about cycling a second round, the same thing for a man from a jacket pocket.  You never have to show it and can have your hand on it....Also if you do not practice malfunction drills, a semi auto might leave you hanging at a critical time, a revolver you just keep pulling the trigger...Why a 357 over 38, when I am off with the family, it is not play time, if I need it, it will put a very big hole in whatever I shoot..If you have your heart set on a concealed carry semi though, look at Kahr Arms...I have always carried Glocks and Sigs, did a stint on our Tactical Team and so on.....I just purchased a Kahr PM40 this thing is tiny but has a match grade barrel, I didn't think that would make a difference,  but I can hit things with this at 50 yards I wouldn't dream of hitting with a full size Glock, and probably not with the Sig either....It is amazingly accurate and not much bigger than a 380..It is pricey though, but when the fit hits the shan, you really want a quality piece in your hand.....Kinda like an old friend told me, you can wear a $50 dollar helmet if you have a $50 head.....same thing with handguns, you can't put a price on your or your loved ones lifes...buy quality....the xd is a great gun too, but consider the xdm, match grade barrel, I am a true believer in MG barrels after shooting a handgun with one..
