Pinion cup and shaft I would purchase new as a pair rather than mixing two parts that may have worn differently, may cause premature failure.

Pro caliber free shipping over $99. Pinion cup and drive shaft would be over that once you got the oil seal and spring Doo dads

I just bought those same parts-  one 'propeller shaft', and one pinion cup, along with the seal that goes between them.
I forget the name I originally clicked on, but the link took me to Babbitt's Online, up in Muskegon Michigan-
Prices couldn't be beat, it seemed to me:   Propeller shaft 40201-MZ0-A00:    $51.48
                                                              Joint, Pinion 41410-MN5-000          37.92
Both parts for less than $90.  That's less than a chain!
That propeller shaft is the new (revised) part that replaces the old -000 driveshaft.
All genuine Honda parts.

all good suggestions, gotta tear it apart this summer when free time.  Was driving 60 mph slight uphill giving little throttle and lost all power.  No major clunks or anything going on just when giving it some throttle, bike revved high (like in neutral which technically it was) and pulled over.  Tried shifting gears out of neutral parked idle and while letting out the clutch, heard some clattering going down in shaft drive so shut it off.   When I push it not running can hear some grinding noises going down in the driveline, not sure what broke?

I lost mine the same way, riding along no problems, then let the clutch out at and intersection, and felt a slight skip, then a block later felt it again. Then within another quarter mile it was done.  I found after it was towed home that the splines on the shaft just worn down, until they just werent catching the pinion cup, and that is that. The pinion cup actually looked pretty good, so assuming the shaft is designed to fail first. It  Happens real fast when its time. Another suggestion, is while you have the shaft out for replacement, ... change your knuckle joint. Not sure how many miles are on it,  but I had a brand new one, and because I heard they were hard to come by, I opted to save mine , and within a thousand miles after taking off on a road trip, it failed, (also happens very quickly). I had it mailed to me, and had to have the work done at the local Honda shop in Asheville. My bike had 44K on it when this work  happened.
Lastly, upon tearing it down for the shaft work, I was very surprised to find the shaft and pinion cup (DRY), no grease, looked like it NEVER, had grease. Of course thats not the case now. With all the engineering that goes into Japenese bikes, never thought they would omit bearing grease between two moving drive parts.

That joint wasn't dry from the factory mauigts, you might have missed the years worth of discussions about that joint on this board. You MUST do the recommended maintenance with the recommended lubricants at the recommended intervals on that joint and it may last forever,, or it may not. Otherwise it will certainly fail.

I guess I have. I live in Hawaii, and keep a  Valk outside of LA, for my long road trips without having to ship the bike back and forth, so I do a lot of catch up reading  on these bikes related to a trip over.  Now though, I just picked up another for  here on Maui, so again catching up  on all the modifications, maintenance etc. Got a really good deal on this last bike, as the new owner, who took the bike in trade for some auto transmission work, only had it for 3 weeks. , He primarily rides Harley's, and told me, they just dont handle like a harley, so I took it for a ride, and noticed he was right, felt like I was driving a boat, slow deliberate turns, wouldnt lean over. So made and offer, and bought it for 1800.00, with 23K on fhe bike.  As soon as I got it home. I checked the air pressure on the 2 brand new tires, and found 14 PSI, in the front and 18 PSI in the rear. Problem solved, bike handles perfect again. Really good shape, just has some minor cosmetic stuff, from sitting near the ocean, which I'll get to  over the next couple months. Ran a bottle of Seafoam through it. I think the previous owner let it sit for a year or two, hence he traded it for some mechanic work. Too bad for them.

The PO couldn't figure that out?? I need his address, see what else he has.

Again, dont really think people pay a lot of attention to these bikes, unless someone educates them as to what they are, and gives them some info. He had 3 other Harleys around him, and  was working working on  HIS personal Harley when I test road it. He said he had two people come in the day before and ride it, and neither of them figured it out I guess, as it was there when I showed up. I'm sure I could have gotten it for less, based on how fast he accepted my offer, but I'm happy. Now, I can sell my other bike, (Harley Duece) , so I can channel that money into a 4 month road  trip on the one I keep in storage outside of LA.

I also (yesterday saw one listed in Hemet CL (CA) for 1600.00. It might be gone already at that price

Last time I a heard that story, the guy with the four Harleys sold the Valkyrie for $500 because he had nowhere to put it. Might see if the PO will give you some of your money back.    Smiley   Smiley
