Old Tractors have a tendency to come out on those beautiful Spring days...saw a lot of 'em this past Sunday.

62  64 years ago Dad took us-Ross and me-to the Threshermens Reunion in Pontiac Il. I can Still vividly recall my ride on a steam tractor. I also recall how the ground shook when another passed where I was standing later in the day. When I lived in Lamar Colorado I happened to be home on some summer holiday or another and there was an abundance of old fully restored gas diesel and steam tractors about. Something to see for any one claiming to be a gear head. RIDE SAFE.

That looks like a 35 Massey Ferguson. Really good little tractors. I had one up until a few years ago when it became apparent that there would be no place for a tractor in a subdivision.

By the way those pipes look killer on your bike!

My 8n was popping, loud, awful... so I took the manifold off, the
gasket was blown out at a couple of cylinders, it has happened before.

This time I coated the new gasket in high-temp copper silicone...

Bad idea, it still pops... don't coat your manifold gaskets, just put them
on clean and dry... it is getting better as I retighten the manifold nuts
after running the tractor a bit... I'll probably have to take the manifold back off, though,
clean it back up and put on a new dry gasket...

Hubcap , we used copper coat sealer on the thin metal head gaskets. We would also check to make sure they were flat.

We would also check to make sure they were flat.

My stiff manifold gaskets were definitely flat, and I had cleaned both
mating surfaces. The head surface is not "perfect" but no worse than
before... I've always just put on the gaskets dry and get satisfaction, but
it only lasts a few seasons, and then the popping starts again. It is easy
to see the one or two places that the gasket has blown out when I
remove the manifold. The people over on the tractor board are split
between thinking the copper coat is a good idea on manifold
gaskets, I see why  Wink ...

Another set of gaskets arrived on Monday. I've bush-hogged a couple
of areas (while wearing ear plugs!) since I installed the copper-coated
gasket. In between running the motor I've noticed that I can tighten the
manifold bolts some more, and the popping is less each time... I'll give
it a couple more tries...

Thanks!
