This could have been a case of bad sportsmen ship where the tortoise was shoved off the track and into the tires of the truck.   We're any hares in the vicinity?

That would suck for sure. But, I'm curious why windshields are so expensive in South Carolina ?  $2,000 ?

Depends....  If it was just the wiper blades no, but if it took out the motors, wiper arms, etc? Parts + labor? Plus the windshield? Yeah, I could see it crossing the $2k mark...

If you look close it appears the turtle hit the hood first. You can see some marks on it. So fixing hood, wiper and windshield, and there may be more to the wiper stuff as the vent section looks damaged as well, $2k might well be in the ball park.

And it appears the windshield mounting flange on the body may be damaged also. Good call Moonshot.

Just to repair and paint the hood will run around $600+.

I bet the turtle was uninsured. Was it texting and not paying attention.  I hit a deer in 1988 and it was uninsured. Cost me quite a bit. I did not report it to my insurance company because deductible was close to the entire bill.
I just missed hitting a turtle on a curve. When I came back later in the day , the turtle was dead. It was about 18 inches across. A big snapper.  It was a shame to see it dead. I have no idea how old they are to get that big.

Son just had to replace the windshield of his company's Hybrid car.  Was close to $2K, as it had "heads up display".   New stuff is expensive.

Not sure why the turtle died though. Obviously it was wearing a helmet.

we were at our local harley dealer this morning doing registration for our cma ( run for the son ride ).
the dealer is right beside i-81 in chambersburg.
we heard a big commotion, and turned around just in time to see a brand new john deere riding mower come off the back of a deliver truck.
2 tractor and trailers in back of the deliver truck made peices out of that mower and several cars ran over stuff that was scattered all over the road.
the carnage did'nt stop for at least 10 minutes till everything that was hit flew to either side of the road.
the deliver truck never stopped. the 2 trucks that took the initial impact were sitting 1/2 down the road with ripped fuel lines and air lines.
