Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

Yep, Mexico celebrates the Cinco de Mayo national holiday with much fanfare, as the event it acknowledges is a source of great national pride. It commemorates a significant event in their history at a time when their national identity and independence were almost lost forever, and it is a big deal to them… justifiably so. Much of the world joins them in this recognition, too, and in the US you’d think it was one of our own holidays! I celebrate the day before… my own day of liberation…

Yesterday I celebrated being happily unmarried for fifteen years! Not that I had a bad marriage or one I needed to escape. Nope, it has to do with who I really am, where I was at that stage of life, and where I needed to go. My ex realized all of that, and together we set in motion what has turned out to be the highlight of my entire life! I owe that wonderful lady, my ex, much for the greatest gift I’ve ever received!!!

So, as Mexico and much of the world celebrates today, I’m recovering from my own celebration… yesterday… I do hope all those joyous celebrants today are as happy as I am!

It’s nice that you have a positive opinion of your “landlady”. It seems so many just hate their exes.

Bruce,
It is, in my humble opinion, a very rare and wonderful relationship when the participants can acknowledge and accept their major (possibly harmful) differences without assigning blame, and then do what needs to be done so that both can live a life they love.  You have been blessed to have such a relationship my friend.  Your landlady is definitely special.

My first wife and I were not so much on the same page when we divorced but we did work the divorce together with very little disagreement.  After our divorce we became closer friends than we ever were before.  We truly loved each other but our individual differences made living together painful for both of us.  I visited her and her mother in their final resting place before anyone else showed up for the Recon Ride.  I miss her.

Had I realized that yesterday was your “special” day, I would have hoisted one in your honor.  Here’s to those special people that love us enough to give us the freedom to be ourselves!  And here is to the freedom we so love and cherish!
