Three weeks ago Kathy and I ventured into Boston for her bi-annual CT Scan. The following Tuesday I was still working on the Cape when Kathy called to tell me the CT scan showed a "spot" in her abdomen above her bellybutton by the scar of the last surgery. 12 scans and there has been nothing. SO after panicking and trying to decide to come home or stay till we new more, the decision was to finish the week and let the company know what was going on. First, I must say RH White has been top notch through all of this. They offered to send me home with work in North Andover and what ever help I needed was only a phone call away. Including what ever time off I needed.
We have seen the oncologist, the surgeon (same as last time) and had a PET Scan from eyebrows to mid thigh.
There is a 2.5x1.8 growth that they will be removing today. The biopsy came back that it is the same cancer as last time. Three years nothing. There is also an area of concern by her pelvis they will be watching too. Today is just to remove the tumor. The other part they will do surveillance on with CT and PET scans going forward from here.
After the surgery they will decide on whether or not chemo is necessary. She will be at Brigham and Women's for about 4 days. She will also be out of work for 6 weeks. Of course this all depends on how today's surgery goes.
I wanted to wait till we knew as best we could what was happening.
The Drs. are confident in the surgery, Kathy is stronger and healthier than she was last time. They do not seem to be overly concerned with the other spots. Yet. Kathy is nervous about the spots, not the surgery. She considers it deserved time off. I of course, being the rock I am have been worried since I got the first call two weeks ago. I told the Dr I won't be not nervous till we are both 85 and happily sitting in rocking chairs on the front porch.
I will post an update after surgery.
Thank you all in advance for your wishes and support
