Out in my drive this morning, working on my pick up. I used my 27 year old, Big Lots $29.99, 2 1/2 ton floor jack for the last time.  Cry
Here is where I would just run to Sear's and buy a Craftsman but, well, you know that story.  Cry
Any suggestions on a new one?

If you use it frequently and want a solid jack, this one from HF is very, very good. https://www.harborfreight.com/automotive/jacks-jack-stands/3-ton-professional-steel-floor-jack-super-duty-63183.html

This is the infamous Snap On lawsuit jack. Snap on sued Harbor Freight because it was substantially the same as theirs. The case didn't get to trial, and was settled, but Harbor Freight said that their jack was being built right beside the $600 Snap On one at the factory.

Either way, I have used Snap On jacks, Hein Werner jacks, Sears jacks, and even an old K-Mart branded one. This Harbor Freight one has been fantastic and is built very well.

Yes, this one seems to fit me and my budget.
Gotta be honest though, I would like an aluminum jack. Prices are higher than I wanna spend. Thinking about this one though.

The last jack I bought came from HF and it has been a good one. I had a 3 ton jack already but it wouldn’t go under my Corvette and even if it would it was too short to reach the crossmembers if I didn’t want to pick it up from the side rail jacking points. So I bought the 2 ton low profile long reach jack which has a entry profile of less than 3 inches. It works better for my 95 Impala SS too as it is fairly low and has a lot of overhang fron tank rear. Still used the 3 ton for the truck.

Thinking the same thing but, reading the fine print. Can’t use coupons on floor jacks. Read some of the reviews on various jacks. Guys complaining about coupons not honored for jacks. That’s what made me read fine print. Found out the hard way last Summer. Went to HF to buy a 10x20 canopy. Coupon no good on that brand of canopy. Fine print is very fine.

Yep, been caught with that. I bought a small magnifying glass at HF just to read their coupons.

You say you have a truck so whatever you get make sure it goes up HIGH enough to lift the truck off the ground.

My cheapo 30 dollar tool shop 2 1/2 ton floor jack I got at Menards works well, but does not come close at all to lift a truck off the ground not enough height.  Even my base SUV 18 inch tires I have to use 1x6 boards underneath each wheel to get enough lift out of it to change tires, etc.  It puts dents in the boards underneath when lifted up, but does not crack them so far at least....

I would not spend much over 100 bucks on any 3 ton floor jack for how little use it gets like 2-3 times per year is all, just make sure it has enough height for lifting a truck.

     Thanks guys  cooldude

Had to work this morning til noon and off to HF I went. After much reading and comparing. I settled on this one:

https://www.harborfreight.com/automotive/jacks-jack-stands/3-ton-low-profile-steel-professional-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-green-64784.html

Lift height was a major concern as well as profile height. Fortunately it was discounted for the holiday sale, $20,00 off.

Nice. Hope it serves you well. As always, never get under a vehicle while only using a jack. Always use some sort of proper jack stands. I don't use them for tire swapping, etc, but I do if I'm climbing under. Mechanic by trade for over 25 years. I lost a very competent friend because he didn't take that precaution. Vehicle landed on his chest. Sadly, his 11 year old daughter found him pinned under the vehicle, already passed. Also a professional auto tech.

agree,  I use them when having to change tires or even going underneath jacking up the car to change oil, etc. but ALWAYS put a jack stand near the jack just in case.  Never know when they an fail all of a sudden and  you underneath not good.

I have let my cheapo tool shop one sit got from menards dirt cheap does the trick for me (except for taller truck too short a height), but let a car sit up on it with NO jack underneath once a long time ago for over night and much to my surprise was WAY LOW the next morning loosing pressure.  So, NOT for permanent lift for say more than overnight without a jack stand for support for sure.    Lesson learned.

I've had my HF jack for about 4-5 yrs now and it has performed fantastic!

It is not the "rapid pump" one and it does take quite a few pumps sometime to get to the frame/crossmember (not sure if they sell this one anymore as I haven't seen it advertised recently) but I'm very pleased.
