By all accounts it was a beautiful service, a number of people got up and spoke about her, her generosity, sense of humor, fondness of travel and adventure. Very moving. Had to chuckle at one thing her youngest son shared from when he was a young lad. Rita asked him if he knew the difference between a good mother and a great mother. A good mother lets her son lick the beaters when baking a cake, a great mother turns it off first.  Grin  She left a huge hole in my life but I'm glad she's no longer suffering. Near the end at times it was screaming agony which morphine didn't relieve. The shots with her are screen captures of pics taken on our honeymoon. The first one it a partial shot of the front of the chapel. She was a beautiful lady inside and out, tonight will be two weeks. I can picture her with my two daughters having another giggle fest like they had years ago.

She's a beautiful and a funny lady indeed. I had the pleasure to meet her few times when I stopped by your house . Her memories Live on, you've done your part and some. My condolences once again john, may you find peace and comfort in the good times you shared together.

Wow! You definitely married "UP" !  angel

Happy the service was a good one as well, I know it must have been difficult. You're a good man, John.

Now....I remember you mentioning something about a medical situation that you need to take care of.
You had mentioned the decision to put it off.
I (all of us) certainly hope you are taking care of yourself now?

I’m sorry Sherry and I was never able to meet her and yes suffering is over.

Was Rita ever into the Motorcycle rides and did she ever go along with the ride to eats?

Yes, we did a lot of rides together on our '92 Wing. Also did a number of trips pulling our matching trailer. Those were great years, lots of fun together and with other couples. In the mid-90's we made three trips to northern New Mexico with two other couples, one had a cabin in the Angel Fire ski resort area. From there we spent days doing short trips out and back, using the cabin as a base. We usually would save one 3-4 day period to ride up into Colorado as a group. I remember one GWRRA chapter even at the Honda dealer west of Winter Garden, on the way home Rita was having problems with balance. That was in 2002 and was the last ride she had on the Wing. At that time it became evident her Parkinsons was affecting her balance to the point it was dangerous for her to ride, she had been diagnosed in 2001....a year earlier. She then told me there was no reason for me to quit doing what I enjoyed so I could either keep the Wing or trade for something I wanted....that's where the Valk came into my life. After I brought it home, she wanted to take one last ride around the block just so she could say she had ridden it and was thrilled by the power compared to the Wing. That was the last motorcycle ride she ever had.

This is a shot taken on one of the N. Mexico trips, I did a screen grab so the date of the picture is current but the date of the event is August, 1998. At my age, my riding, my life, will continue to be solo.

Well, John,

While it sucks to have lost the love of your life, from your descriptions of Rita, it sounds to me, like she would want you to do as much of what you enjoyed together as you can in her memory.  After all the sacrifices (I know  you said it was a privilege) you made caring for her, it's time to reward yourself and make up for lost time.  I'm sure Rita would want you to get as much wind therapy as you can handle, and she'll be there with you, watching over you.  Take care.
