or just simple meditation ? I'm a pretty simple dude. I'm not very imaginative, I rarely think outside the box. I seldom experience anxiety, if at all. But these last few weeks have been filled with it. Just some bullshit drama at work. My personal life and friends and family are doing great. Life is sure not filled with dread. But enough anxiety has creeped in lately to make things not so fun.
Which brings me back to Kama Sutra or just simple meditation ? Today I had a 460 mile ride for 90 minute meeting. It was just what the doctor ordered. I've ridden this route many times beginning with my first in '77. It's a known commodity, nothing new and exciting. Mostly boring Interstate miles. But, I've found even the most mundane can be enlightening and invigorating, much like the Kama Sutra. Often a ride can also be just purely meditative.
I think today's ride fell somewhere in the middle of the book of positions. I have sometimes thought I do my best thinking when out riding. Truth be told, that's not really accurate. I do my most "relaxed thinking" when out riding, which many times results in great thinking. Maybe even best.
  Today I thought of many things. Work and personal. Mostly "outside the box". Some of the things I will share ;
1) there is value in retaining your character and the respect of those you work with. I'm not sure of its monetary value, but I do know my value is much larger than some. It's value is big enough for me to be of little thought of letting it go.
2) it's our friends and family that matter in life. Don't get me wrong. Money and things are important, but in essence they are worthless without our friendships and the love of our family.
3) when thinking out of the box, one can conjure up some interesting stories. As I was riding this morning the closer I got to Williams I could clearly see there was a forest fire taking place. I got to thinking how Baldo texted me last night that they stopped in Williams and got a hotel instead of camping. Well, I got to thinking maybe they had a change of plans and ended up camping anyway. Then I got to thinking after crossing Death Valley at 110*, Bob clearly wasn't ready for a chilly evening of 65*. He must have woken up at 4am shivering. Started a campfire and warmed up. Having warmed up he nodded back off to sleep and the fire escaped and got out of control. Having been woken from the crackling of "old growth" forest going up in smoke, they hightailed it out of there. Why else would they have been able to make it to Taos by only 2pm ? Don't be too hard on Bob there in Taos. As I came back thru, it looked like they had it mostly out. (I would check Bob for matches though)
4) taking your time and smelling the roses is underrated. I stopped in Peach Springs and had dinner with the Hualapais, I stopped in Hackberry and got pics of the sunset, I stopped at Wendy's and enjoyed a Frosty. Life is good. I think I'm only scratching the surface of my "Kama sutra rides".

The 2 pics of the caverns I took because I thought of Gryphon Rider and a story he told of taking his family there. I’m curious if it looks the same Kevin ? I’ve been by there a dozen times, but never stopped before.

So, any idea what the story is on the Tractor in the last pic at "avern inn"?

Got a heck of a chrome stack, but looks to be on Jack stands.

Rob,

Ah, 'meditative riding'! Much, if not most, of my riding would fall into that category... Careful, amigo, it is highly addictive!

I love the sunset pics.  I don't really remember the outside of the building, and certainly don't remember the old cars and fire truck (per Google street view), and the site looks a little rougher than when I remember from 13 years ago.

**Edit before posting**

I looked it up on Google maps, and the reason I don't remember what you are showing is because the building for the cavern's entrance is about a mile down a little road beyond the site in your pictures.

Okay, I just googled Kama Sutra, and I must admit I'm not creative enough to understand how it relates to solo motorcycle riding, although I'm sure you could adapt some of its instruction if your wife were with you and the motorcycle were parked in a secluded area.  Lips Sealed

2funny I also was wondering if his bike might have had a vibration issue on this ride!

Grin you guys aren’t thinking outside the box. It was more of an example of how all rides are different. Some are exhilarating, some are cerebral, even the mundane ones can be well being for one’s psyche. Much like the different positions of the Kama Sutra.

For the record, I’ve never read it. Just thought the juxtaposition between the 2 events was relevant.  Smiley

That was my thought as well but I decided I didn't want to hear the explanation.  Grin

Nice pics

Time on the bike is sure therapeutic...only relaxed thinking that can wander of track as complex thoughts disturb the ride so work stuff is left behind.  laugh

I am lucky to have good staff that get on well.....heavy workload in the office can be stressful so at least the ride is required but with a shoulder issue ATM I can't clock up the miles to much..... and it's dark after work here so no pics to share and weekends are busy around the house, bathroom refit, pavers laid before the mud hits etc

Reminds me I must get out riding with my brother again as he has work issues with new jumped up staff upsetting the flow

Ohhh well back to my paper work as staff start to arrive Smiley

As the saying goes:

Sex is like riding a Valkyrie,

when it's good, it's really good!

When it's bad, it's still pretty good...

Actually I heard an "up and coming" comedian say this about sex and pizza, but I think it works well here too.

I heard that Playboy was coming out with a version for married men

Has the same centerfold every month   Roll Eyes

Rob, only you could put Kama Sutra and riding to work in the same thread.  Bless your heart.   Wink

Hmmm....there was a time/event that involved a motorcycle, more years ago than I care to think about. I'll let it go now, but sure was a memorable day. I had married her a few months prior.  Wink

Nice pics Rob, the Valk side one is calendar material. cooldude

I'm not sure what Kama Sutra and bike riding have in common, I'm only able to use 3-4 positions while riding, depending on where my highway pegs are located. Roll Eyes

I did run through the illustrated examples I found after googling "Kama Sutra" and the one called "Crouching Tiger" reminded me of a Gymnast I dated in high school, so thanks for that memory. cooldude

  According to Wikipedia:
"Attributed to Vātsyāyana, the Kama Sutra is neither exclusively nor predominantly a sex manual on sex positions, but written as a guide to the "art-of-living" well, the nature of love, finding a life partner, maintaining one's love life, and other aspects pertaining to pleasure-oriented faculties of human life."

Riding is definitely part of the "art-of-living" well.

IMHO, if you can afford to own and ride a Valkyrie, you've achieved some part of "Kuma Sutra"

Are the Park Rangers out looking for Baldo & Scott?

Ah....thinking out of the box ! I like it Bill  cooldude  I think I threw the authorities off their trail. But they’ve still got another 2800 miles to make it safely to the Kennedy Compound.  Wink
