All very important considerations.   I will attempt to attend regardless of the location, the exception being some of the West (Left) Coast states.   But, I believe it is time to remember that we as a group and our Fat Ladies are all growing long in the tooth and distance to travel is something each person must consider.   I still believe holding two InZanes a year, one east of the Mississippi and one west would garner more participants.   Some members would try to attend both events, I know I would if I were able.   I really do appreciate the efforts the staff goes to, I know it's not all fun and games.   Pretty sure there is a lot of fun in doing it though.  Yes, it's more effort for the staff but, if the staff would allow or accept assistance from the membership it could be easily accomplished.   Just my opinion.   Yeah, I know, I'll shut up now.   Wink

I would disagree on a couple points. I think it is pretty well proven these bikes can make many cross country trips, regardless of their age or mileage. I also think as we ourselves get “longer in the tooth” a long trip is more doable. Getting time off from work is a big consideration, being retired takes that out of the equation. I would also disagree with your theory of dividing it up into to events, east and west. We are getting 300 plus now. I doubt splitting it up is going to increase it at all. If anything, make it 150-175 each.

No surprises here.

The president's words could be taken too literally.

There is no shortage of volunteers within the VRCC and we do appreciate the help.  To organize a gathering such as InZane successfully does take a certain amount of skill, knowledge and experience.  It's not simply a matter of throwing more people at it.  Were the East and West InZane idea to succeed would we end up with essentially and East VRCC and a West VRCC?

I'm okay with leaning alternating InZanes east and west (Although not really as far west as some may think.).  I am not in favor of holding an east InZane and a west InZane every year.

That's my personal opinion.  It doesn't necessarily represent the view of InZane staff as a whole.

Ive only attended one Inzane and it was in Roanoke, I loved the riding in the area and wouldn't mind returning.
I also am one person that plans on attending Inzane next year wherever it's held...as long as nothing comes up  crazy2

If we were going to repeat an eastern InZane, Trish and I really enjoyed the riding in Asheville and Morgantown.  Both are great spots for a 2nd InZane too.

Not that I go every year, but I look forward to the rides that are at least 1000 miles away from home base.  Lots of places to explore.  I already have the kitchen pass for next year so would gladly like a return to the general area, but like others, would like a Pennsylvania location versus a return to Roanoke.

Well Western PA would give me a chance to see the Grand Canyon of the East which I have somehow managed to miss several times so far in my travels across rt 6

Lots of nice roads in surprisingly good condition and day trip could make it to WV and the finger lakes region of NY as well

Dont know about what places are big enough for all of us

During Taos north Georgia got 4 days of torrential rain. Local dams had to have some extra flood gates opened to release water.

I've no opposition to the so called East/West alternating schedule.  My opposition would be to holding an east InZane and a west InZane each year.  It's not practical, would reduce attendance while increasing work, and would tend to split the club.

GOOD POINTS

And dont forget the club is good enough to allow all to post rides,  meet in the middle, GOTF (RIP),
powwow, yooper, hoosier ride, fall color ride, even my ride

My only reservation Carl is known to you and it has nothing to do with where Inzane is

I plan to be there wherever it is as I am not expecting any more kids to get married next June or July.

I've looked into the possibility.  Unfortunately, the hotel we used then is pretty trashed. I'm not even sure it's open at all, it was closed down for a number of violations.  There doesn't seem to be a hotel in Zanesville that would meet our parameters.  If someone has better information, by all means, let me know.

No to Memphis please, I don’t live in Memphis, but close enough to get all the local news. Very dangerous city. Shootings and stabbings every day and night, the popular activity of late is shooting into random vehicles along the streets and highways. There isn’t any good local riding, have to go to the Ozarks or east TN for some nice riding. Memphis has some great history, much of it Blues music based and of course the home of Elvis’ Graceland.
Some of us do go to bike night on Beale St, good eating, music, and many bikes of all varieties...it’s fun but we skeered and leave by 9pm. Jus Sayin’

And lots of the roads are in bad shape.

Memphis was where I saw my first wrong way driver. First in my life, not just in the USA. Older couple in an SUV whizzing along the left emergency lane on I 240.   Shocked

I've often wondered about the Finger Lakes region of N. Yk., have no idea what it's like since I've not traveled through there. Or east of there in upstate NY it gets a bit more hilly with lots of forest, etc. Just don't go very far south unless the location is a higher altitude. I may well be able to do this one now.

The Finger Lakes region is nice, I've spent some time there and have cousins that live near Watkins Glen.  But NY is not a state I care to travel to with their politics and gun laws.  I think Pennsylvania is a much friendlier state for a group like ours, and depending on the location, day rides to the Finger lakes is easily doable.  I also think the terrain in PA makes for better riding.

I'd love for Inzane to return to Roanoke.

The riding around here has much to offer and I like showing off things in my backyard.

With that said,

Western, PA also has much to offer.

West Virginia also is a wonderful place to ride.

Eastern, TN is a riders paradise (I attended DOTS and both Inzanes in Johnson City and would be excited to return there again).

Western, NC is also a great place to ride.

Powwow was just in Painted Post NY and included rides around nice roads of Finger Lakes (Watkins Glen) and Grand Canyon of PA   Also terrific hiking for those who enjoy a nice walk.

Understand why those who carry want to stay clear of NYS (and NYC)  No part of my Columbus Day ride goes into NYC

Western PA is also within riding distance of WV and the Alleghany area is beautiful and usually cooler than the deep south.

Looking forward to it wherever it is

Agree with Joe... WV is the place to go.... not northern.

Snowshoe resort is huge and is in the middle of the best riding in the world. Only problem might be pricing.

As far as New York, specifically the Finger Lakes region, the areas with big hotels are very crowded (traffic was terrible in Watkins Glen) in the summers and frankly, I found the riding there pretty boring.

The Laurel Highlands area of western Pennsylvania is nice as well.

Also eastern Kentucky has some great riding, but hotels in the size range you need might be few and far between.

I have tried to attend a few Inzanes but life got in the way each time. The Spearfish year I was in route but had to change plans shortly after I left (had to iron butt it in the opposite direction). Any place along the Appalachian chain in the east is good with the exception of Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg/ Cherokee tourist traps. Anywhere in the West along the Rocky Mountain chain is good. I would even entertain the Left Coast since there is some absolutely wonderful geology along the San Andres Fault that I would not object to seeing again before I am feeding worms or CA slides into the Pacific, whichever comes first. There are gems worth seeing in every state that I have traveled (even Nebraska).

Despite never having actually attended an Inzane, I appreciate the dedication of the staff to find the locations and facilities. Maybe in the near future I will be able to break the streak of missing the said event.
