If the staff would allow or accept assistance from the membership.

We would gladly allow/accept assistance from the membership.

Any place along the Appalachian chain in the east is good with the exception of Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg/ Cherokee tourist traps.

Those are the places that might have convention centers...

I'd hate to be stuck in the middle of Gatlinburg facing a half hour or more of stop
and go (mostly stop) traffic to go for a ride. There's endless good roads in every
direction, you'd just have to get out of the congested tourist zone. Cherokee
seems like the easiest zone to escape from... or maybe down the road at
Maggie Valley?

Despite never having actually attended an Inzane, I appreciate the dedication of the staff to find the locations and facilities. Maybe in the near future I will be able to break the streak of missing the said event.

I understand full well how life gets in the way of our plans, I too had never made it to an Inzane, despite being around since before Inzane I, until 3 Inzanes ago... Now I'm kicking myself for all the ones I missed, wishing I'd made it a higher priority earlier...

Hope life makes it possible and we get to meet, where ever it is next year!

Highlands, NC?  There was once facilities there but I have not been there in way too long. Sort of limited access but plenty of twisties in the area. The willingness to negotiate may be lacking since the summer and fall are the "season" in that part of the world. You folks that get to ride that area regularly have my envy.

Many university towns in the Appalachian chain will have the facilities needed to host a little gathering of Valkaholics.

While the university facilities would likely be puritanical,  most private facilities surrounding them are not. I have never attended a college ball game that at least one over served patron needed to be ejected.

University ain't like it used to be... Clemson has a first class conference center (only half big enough for
InZane) at their first class golf course on the lake...

Well first and foremost, a HUGE THANK YOU to the VRCC staff, for year after year after year - putting on this national rally. We realize that it is a huge commitment on your part to pull this off, many thanks from us.

I have been to 14 of the 19 annual rallies, including the first 3 in Zanesville, always a blast, great people. I have not been to any out west of the Mississippi - my bad, seems I keep hearing they are outstanding areas, I had better get to the next one.

As far as 2020, I'll be getting to wherever it is held, new places and destinations are always nice. Don't know if it is even plausible, to go to warmer areas (Texas, the Osarks, etc) at a late time frame, like October. I live in Michigan, and we need to pay "some" attention to the weather, as it gets later in the year, but maybe that could give us a new location, which is not sweltering hot.

Just my 2¢ worth - and again - thanks so much for all you do.

Public Service Announcement:

For those who have indicated an interest in Texas (the Hill Country) for Inzane XX - those of us who live here don't even go during Inzane times.  We have a Texas Rally in October but it's still hot then!!   I prefer to go an Inzane that is far enough north to have pleasant riding temperatures - not 100 degrees with 90% humidity.   Remember Eureka Springs?  Then think hotter than that and you'll have Texas in June.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I'd love to  have Inzane back in Roanoke (it's in my back yard so to speak). But I'd probably go anywhere in the east ,I love West Va. and Joe's suggestion of Snow Shoe sounds good except I see lots of $$$$

I just voted "Yes, I'll go anywhere"; however,  I'd like to caveat the vote with "EXCEPT MEMPHIS"!
I grew up there and graduated from Whitehaven High School.
I will not go back there on a bet.

May I suggest Kingsport TN or Johnson City TN for a possible Inzane location. Both are located around the Southern Dozen Motorcycle routes.

I don't remember whether I answered that I would go back to Roanoke or would go anywhere.   The truth is, I would go back to Roanoke, Morgantown, Arkansas and many of the other places InZanes have been held (to include west of the Big Muddy) and I would try to attend "almost" anywhere.   I don't care about filling in a map.   There are places I wouldn't go for any reason to include an InZane.   I get asked to transport to the west coast once in a while.   I always tell the person the same thing, I'll do it but, it'll cost you more if I have to enter California.   Reference going to an InZane, distance and travel time are always important factors to most of us.   So, anywhere isn't really a good option but, those are the options we were given.

Edited:  Correction, the term anywhere was not used, the option was, "I will go no matter where it is held".    My bet is, many of those who voted for that would change their vote depending on where it is held.   Maybe specific regions would have been a better vote option.  I didn't put the poll together but, I don't believe the next InZane will be selected based on popular vote.

If you look at the poll, your answer is in bold.

Quote
My bet is, many of those who voted for that would change their vote depending on where it is held.   Maybe specific regions would have been a better vote option.

So far, 38 ppl that responded that they would attend no matter where it is held.  I can assure you that we have at least that many ppl who go every year... regardless of location.

Quote

I did put the poll together.  You're right, InZane location will not likely be selected by popular vote, but then the poll didn't imply that.  The purpose of this poll was strictly to see if we should entertain a return to Roanoke.  The poll was not meant to imply anything more than that.

Thanks to the VRCC Staff for doing this each year!  I don't envy your task of deciding a location.  Lot's of great input.  Please allow me to provide some locations for consideration:

- Glen Falls, NY to Chestertown, NY area
- Lewisburg, WV - Snow Shoe, WV area
- Blacksburg, VA (Polytechnic my provide the space/rooms??)
- Waynesville, NC (sw of Ashville)
- Anywhere near The Tail of the Dragon

Montrose does not have a hotel large enough for InZane.  We would have to split up the attendees; I think we would lose a lot of the event's ambiance.

If 2 hotels not too far apart could host us, see if they'd be willing to agree to run a regular shuttle service? Would help a lot keeping us as a group, and expanding the possible locations...

Not sure if that's something they'd be willing to do or something we'd be willing to consider, just an idea.....

Roanoke, VA  has a sky high crime rate, why even think of going there?

https://www.areavibes.com/roanoke-va/crime/

The 2017 crime rate in Roanoke, VA is 347 (City-Data.com crime index), which is 1.2 times greather than the U.S. average. It was higher than in 86.5% U.S. cities. The 2017 Roanoke crime rate rose by 5% compared to 2016. The number of homicides stood at 16 - an increase of 3 compared to 2016

1.2 times the average is not really sky high.  Like most urban areas, there are places not to go.

It was a fantastic Inzane (Hotel, rides and everything).

The biggest issue we had the whole week was the hotel unhappy with us drinking our own beer, and not theirs.  We ignored them, and the problem went away.   Grin

It was a GREAT Inzane ! Never felt a bit uncomfortable there. It’s kind of strange for someone who doesn’t go to Inzanes to be knocking their areas.  Shocked The most amount of great roads in one area I’ve ever been to. (I think myself and the Massachusetts boys put a dent in their beer inventory)

Roanoke, VA  has a sky high crime rate, why even think of going there?

We went to ride motorcycles. I had a blast. I hope you weren't too bored that week  Wink ...

Statistics are often very misleading.

I worked Fire/EMS in the City of Roanoke for 20 years.

Like Jess said, there are neighborhoods that should be avoided.

There are no neighborhoods that I won't go to in the daytime, there are some that I avoid at night.

Trouble is easy to avoid in Roanoke, but it can be found if you go looking for it.

We do our best....

As far as the riding, those were the best roads and best riding I've ever seen all in one place. At the end of one of the days, I was BEGGING for a straight road......

Even the main road in, 221, has a section that must have been laid out by a
maniac!

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

This was me in 2018 on our 17 day trip.  Grin From Estes Park to the Utah 5 to the North Rim to the Navajo Res was noting but curves. 10 days and 800 miles I was tired of it. Im more of a great plains rider.  Tongue
