Auto shop. I’m a firm believer that both boys and girls should take them in school. Brenda had the day off and was going to get some lab bloodwork done this morning. Her Miata is out of commission due to a disgruntled ex-worker of mine popping one of her tires with a pocket knife. It’s a long an involved story and I probably can’t say a whole lot about it. Other than, if I see this dude I might need you guys to  spot me some bail money.
So anyway, she’s been using the truck the last few days while we wait on her tire to get here. This morning when she went to go do her labs, the battery was dead as a door nail. Walking her thru finding the charger and hooking it up was probably comparable to walking me thru baking a soufflé. I have a feeling the battery may be shot though. She kept telling me the gauge kept swinging from 20amps to 0 back and forth.
When I didn’t see one of her calls, she even called her brother in law in Alaska for help.  Smiley

Before Kali was allowed to drive on her own she had to show me she could change a tire on the car...

Before she's allowed to take off on a motorcycle solo away from me, I lay it down on a blanket and she has to lift it back up on her own. (This hasn't yet been attempted with the Valkyrie)

On the ride home from Inzane she got an impromptu lesson in jump starting a vehicle when she left the lights on the Standard while we had lunch and there wasn't enough juice left to start it afterwards...

(Her mother had a bad habit of the same behavior, so I carry a small set of jumper cables on my Valks at all times.)

I used to do sessions on picking up a Valkyrie.  I haven't done it in a while, I think Colorado was the last.  If Kali learned the technique, I would love to have her do a couple of demo sessions at the next InZane.

Getting to show off yet another talent at the next Inzane might be just the motivation she needs... (Ya' might not have noticed, but she does like the spotlight a wee bit... Just gotta keep that craving for attention channeled in positive avenues!)

This is the method I've been teaching her, she used it on her 250cc scooter, but hasn't done it on the Valk yet:

That's it.
I used to have a video picking up a Valkyrie, but I can't locate it.  Here are a couple with Goldwings... grab points are similar to a Valkyrie.

I haven't tried these methods on a Valk or Goldwing, but they work very well on heavy adventure bikes.

Brian: What if she's all alone somewhere. Look on Amazon for a NOCO GB40. I carry one in case the battery fails. You don't require another vehicle to get going.

A parent's responsibility IMHO.   Ya done good.
With both of my teen's, I did the same thing but a few steps further.   Before they were ever turned loose, they had to be able to change a tire, jump start a vehicle, drive a standard shift/manual transmission and, back a vehicle with trailer into a designated spot.   Yeah, I was hard to please but, both my kids can drive and operate just about anything.

Their Mom was never in favor of teaching them to ride a motorcycle so, I didn't push that but, I have always encouraged them to learn and enjoy different things they wanted to try.   Both have gone skydiving, SCUBA diving and many other activities their mother considers too risky.   Wink

Probably a different make/model but there's a USB Battery Pack that can jump start a car or bike in "her" car and was also on the Valkyrie during the trip, I'd just forgotten about it and had tunnel vision on the jumper cables...

I think I will be buying one of these soon just in case since I normally let my batteries on cycle go dead and so far, besides one bike,  has not left me stranded always not started at home, but my luck am sure will run out one of these days.  One use and if starts the weak battery, will pay for itself.  Schumacher is a good brand name I think...

https://www.farmandfleet.com/products/1110394-schumacher-600a-lithium-ion-jump-starter-and-power-pack.html

Only does any good though if carry with you AT ALL TIMES in car or cycle on the road.    They claim the lithium ion battery is good for 1000 cycles, but wonder how long the battery will last in storage not used for say 6-7 years??  Will it be no good by then??

As far as changing tires,  I had to walk my 20 year old daughter thru it over the phone this winter on her car 3 1/2 hours away.  Problem she had was the single tire iron wrench was not a 4-way and she was not strong enough to budge the lug nuts loose so had to get a guy friend to help her.  I tried it and could do it, just barely, but those lug nuts are on tight nearly needing a 4-way for leverage.

As far as backing up a trailer, I find that funny since have had the wife attempt it a few times and always have gotten a huge chuckle with her getting pissed off at me.  Only issue I have is backing up my 23 foot long enclosed trailer alongside my house having less than 1 foot clearance on both sides needing to get it fairly close to my house since pretty close to lot line on other side and does not help that truck and trailer is near as long as my 50 feet long driveway.  I cannot just turn the wheel and expect instant movement of where that longer trailer wants to go in such a tight/confined turning space.
