Put the bike to sleep today for the long northern Indiana winter. Took her out for one last ride, added the fuel stabilizer and sea foam and gave her the last wash and detail job for 2009.

It was a good year, we travelled some miles together, met many old friends and made some new ones. Most of those miles I had the love of my life with me and we made many new memories together.

She is up on the lift now, covered up with the battery tender already glowing green. And now the wait for spring begins, over 4 months away at best.

Damn.....  Sad

.........Hey Dave....first let me congratulate you on the new woman in your life...havent had the pleasure of meeting her yet...but she looks like a keeper...  cooldude

.....far as the....Deep Sleep....ran the tank down on the State the other day....Stabiled her out...filled her up......and did something Ive never done before....called Progressive and ...cancelled the insurance....since Ive moved up to Northern Michigan, I usually just lower it down to the minimums which was about 16 dollars a month for the winter...but now Michigan changed their coverage laws and require you to keep comprehensive on the bike...whether you ride it or it sits for the winter....they wanted to clip me for 30 bucks a month for the bike to sit in a dark garage till April.....cant see it....looks like my timing was right though...got up this morning and the weather girl has begun to use the phrase....Lake Effect Snow...in describing the weather for the up comming week..and beyond.....consider myself lucky this year though....usually we have a good 3 feet up here already by this time of year..(woke up to 40 degrees this morning)...December is just about here, and with Christmas rush...will go by quickly...then it,s just 3 short months till spring......hooooooo yeahhhhh...  Cool

This is the first year in over a decade that I didn't store the Valk but I did put the Nighthawk into hibernation; oil change, a full tank with sea foam, and a battery tender.  The same for the Miata, although I might wake up the Miata occasionally if the weather turns balmy and there's no salt on the street.

I'm kinda looking forward to Inzane next year in my favorite state.  Yep, I'm a Hoosier but a Wolverine too.

I missed Inzane this year, the first one I have missed since they started.  But our Michigan rides and the CBR made up for it. As has been stated at least 1000 times, it's the people in this club that make it so great and it has become so much more than just being about a brand of motorcycle.

I am really excited about Inzane this year, I really love riding in Michigan and all the great folks up there. It's gonna be a great InZane and it's good to have something to look forward to. Hopefully winter is short and we can be back on the road.

Haven't put the Harley away yet put I feel it's coming.  Did get out yesterday afternoon for about 100 miles.

Dave, congrats on the engagement.  Hope you 2 are very happy.

Dave, I do have one question.  When was the last time anyone saw your Valkyrie dirty?  Always
looks like it came off the showroom. Say Hi to Lou for me.

I know those of us down South taunt ya'll yankees about it, but seriously, my condolences... I really don't know how ya'll do it, I'd go absolutely crazy if I had to do that...

(Well, no, I wouldn't, I'd be talking to a real estate agent about a move, but that's just me... Wink )

It just don't get that cold here in North Carolina to put the bike up for the winter. I give them a good oil change air up the tire's. Maybe a new air filter if needed. Fill with high test gas and keep riding. We ride pretty much year round except for occasional snow fall, rain or ice storm. LOL  Cheesy Grin Cool 2funny

yeah, but we don't have scorpions, and black widows, alligators, killer bees, cockroaches the size of small rats, mosquitoes year round.  Not to mention all those old people that move away from here to get away from the cold!!

I use to do that with my bike but decided to just keep it ready to roll when we get a nice day here in Northern Illinois. They only happen a couple of times a month so I try to take advantage ... plus there is the added benefit of scaring the crap out of the civilians when you pull up at a light!

we went for one last ride for 2009,  call it a oil warm up ride, dumped the cans of SF and topped off the tanks, changed the oil, put them in the shed, pulled the batteries and covered them up.  COME ON SPRING !   cooldude

Well, I hoped ya'll are happy...

It's snowing this morning in Dallas...

And 'sposed to only get into the 30's to 40's for the rest of the week... If I'm not gonna ride for a week or two, should I winterize?

  A week huh????
Yep.. better:
Drain the tank and carbs.  gotta get all the water in the gas out...might freeze....
refill with fresh gas and run with Stabil

then drain and change the oil

pull the battery and put on a controlled charger

Get the bike off the tires... don't want flat spots..

Did I leave anything out??????
Iv'e never winterized a bike either...

A week ya say.....I think I'd just risk it and take a chance... heck, ya might get to ride this weekend!!!!!
