Today is a day to celebrate, this is a wonderful nation, fought for and protected by many generations. May she always be free. Enjoy your 4th of July and be safe but, always be watchful for those who would destroy what she stands for. Freedom isn't Free. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zF7a0wB-LgRams

Well there's good news and bad news.
The bad news is, my neighborhood could be called Little Beirut with all the fireworks going off non-stop from late afternoon and ongoing (a bunch of it is big stuff). I enjoy some fireworks as much as the next guy, but it's like a war zone around here (every year). The black powder smoke builds up like fog (civil war style).
The good news is, for the first time in maybe two decades, I don't have a next-door or across-the-street neighbor shooting it all over my roof and yard.

There's more good news, all that smoke will keep those blood sucking "skeeters" down for a while. Almost like getting a divorce. Rams

Anyone else have dogs that can't handle fireworks? My "Spousal Unit's" terrier goes nuts, my English Mastiff couldn't care less and falls asleep...…… It is, what it is. Rams

Rams Yeah, try it with a frightened 160lbs Great Dane! Frightened of fireworks, gunfire, and thunder. He'll try to get on your lap as his heartrate is elevated and breathing is 3 times faster (which means way more slobber from his massive jowls)! A couple years ago we moved to a neighborhood outside of the city limits which means it's free range for fireworks and gunfire. This year, knowing what's coming on the 4th, we built a "soundproof" room in one of the closets. It wasn't totally soundproof but muffled the blasts enough to help as the Dane was calmer than past years and we seemed to have more/louder fireworks this time. We also used different "calming" medication but it left him quite wobbly once he emerged from the room to go P.

Down the street from us they were looking for volunteers to help keep the horses calmed down during it all.

That sux! How do you keep horses calm when there's fireworks? As I stated with our Great Dane what we do, but we also have a Lab that nuts up too. But she is fine as long as she is around you and you're petting/touching her. I can't imagine trying to calm a horse down...

You keep them calm from outside the stable door (or coral).
I've been stepped on twice, and that was when they were somewhat calm already.

OUCH!! I can imagine. Been stepped on by a horse (or cow/calf) a time or two as a kid on our farm! You know it when either of our Great Danes steps on your foot, even the 120lb one... And that's with way softer foot than a hoof!
