This may be the final update until Monday.
Will keep the updates here in the Florida group from now on.

Grumpy has had a dye test to check for leaks and passed it. That was an important milestone.
Has probably begun to drink water as of this point.
They have him sitting up and walking every day.
The latest news he has rec'd on when he will get out is possibly Monday!!
Not out of the woods as he will have to have full time nursing care but "it beats the heck out of staying here" He says the Doctors are happy with his progress.
He is pretty amazing!
Keep up the prayers for a continued and full recovery and again, thank you!!

7/15 - Update

Best laid plans of mice and men.....
Grumpy will not be getting out of the hospital.
Doctors decided he still needs IV drugs that cannot be administered at home. Soooooooo......
He will enter a rehab facility instead and be there for around a week or so before being evaluated for the next step.
Told Anna to tell him "Hey, at least you are alive to go into Rehab.....quitcha' bitchin' !!

7/16 - Update.

Grumpy has been transferred to a rehab facility and is already not too happy about it.
Where the hospital was already starting him on "light meals"  the rehab has reversed course and taken him back to liquid, delivered solely through tubes.
Grumpy suffered zero damage to his throat and was receiving no treatment for the above.
The rehab facility has decided he has suffered throat damage and wants to start him on Speech therapy.
See a trend here?
Medicare will provide 21 days of payments toward a rehab facility. That statement should help clarify.
Have let him know that his doctors can dictate what the rehab is to do and what they are not to do.
He is frustrated and feels like as hard as he has tried and pushed that he is going backwards at this point. As if it has not been tough enough for him already.
He is tough and will get answers am sure. In the meantime keep praying for him. Am a firm believer our prayers have helped him along the way. Thank each and every one of you for that.

I'm with Bill, I have a distaste for nursing homes/rehab facilities in general, having had a couple of experiences with them in recent years. In the first instance, they wanted to put Rita on a 3 wk regimen to get her to the point she could walk(she broke her shoulder). As Pappye stated, Medicare pays 100% of the first 20 days, then all but something like $156.50/day for another number of days which I don't recall but my supplemental kicked in for the next 60 days. Doesn't take a genious to figure out the 20 days from Medicare and the 3 wk plan of the facility. When I got the plan layout I brought it to a stop immediately. Suddenly all types of other charges started to appear so I caontacted Medicare directly about it. It stopped shortly thereafter but the attitude of the "home" didn't. They will milk the gov't. for every dime possible and it really bugs me.

Bill, I wish you the best outcome through all this and the prayers are still coming from Wisconsin for the next few weeks.

Hello all.  I'm so sorry for my late reply on this, but I pray for the best for Grumpy.  I've only been to a couple of local gatherings and don't know it I met him or not.  But from what I am hearing, he is a great guy.  Get better Grumpy, so I can meet you in person.  Get better quickly so you can get out of that rehab place.  All your Valk friends miss you.

7/20 - Update

He has gotten with his Humana rep., his doctors, and the staff there and I guess the tide has turned back in his favor.
He is back on track now to leave the rehab facility as early as Monday.
He seems in good spirits except that he simply does not want to be where he is....guess that's a good thing!
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He is a long way from normal still. Thanks! ... to each and every one of you.

7/22 - Update

It's official !!  Grumpy has paperwork in hand for his release from the rehab facility and back to the house! Wednesday morning at 9AM !
Celebration will be short lived however as he has several doctor appointments scheduled for Wed. and Thurs. already.
He will still be primarily fed through a tube for a few weeks but combined with some "normal" food to go along with. Mainly light stuff for a while. Main thing is that he is on the road to recovery!!
This will be my last post or update on Grumpy as he will be able to take over on Wednesday and supply updates on his progress.
Thanks again to each and every single one of you that prayed for him and kept him in your thoughts during his battle for life and during his recovery process. Thanks to God above for listening to and answering our prayers!
