For those that don't know dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer father's day weekend. They were unsuccessful in putting in a Stent between his pancreas and the liver. To restricted. He went home to his apartment. Since being released he has had several appointments. On July 1st we met with the doctors and nurses at the Parkview cancer institute to discuss potential treatments and where to go from here. Chemo is out of the question. The only treatment he might be eligible for is immuno therapy but only if his cancer is of the correct molecular structure.

We met with at least nine people that day. Everyone was fantastic. He was assigned a nurse "navigator" that will be there for any needs he might have. Anyone in the family can call her for questions or requests. They have since done a procedure to remove an infection that might make it easier to install the Stent in the future. Since then he has some weakness so he has moved in with me and my wife Twila. Twila worked as a nurses aid in a nursing home so she has the skills to take care of him. So for the time being he will stay with us. He is hoping to go back home but we will see how he does. If anyone wants to come see him drop me a line and I will make the arrangements.

We need to also be sending our prayers out to Mark, Twila and Chris as they go though this difficult time with Wayne.  It's gotta' be hard for them and any prayers you send their way for strength would probably be appreciated.

Night before last we had to call an ambulance for dad abut midnight. He had extreme pain in his back. My brother Chris and I followed  the ambulance to the hospital. They treated him for the pain with fentanyl witch worked untill 3am. They gave him another dose which didn't work. Took two doses of deloted to take care of it. By then though dad was out of it. Couldn't understand anything he was saying. They did another abdominal CT and we where told of the results. The tumor on his pancreas has grown from 2x2 inches to 3.6x2.8 inches. It has grown over an inch and a half since father's day weekend. It's fast. It has also spread to his liver to which it is riddled with it. I spoke to his nurse this morning. He is doing much better and is being released today with a RX for pain at home.  We will pick him up this afternoon in time for a meeting with the palliative care nurse at 330. We should know more then.

Thanks for the update, hate to hear how quickly it's going and even worse the break-through pain. Stay on top of 'em to keep him comfortable, I don't think getting addicted to pain killers is a real concern for him at this point...  Cry

If there are any VRCC brothers or sisters that would like to visit dad. NOW would be the time. We have called in the "comfort care" team to help us care for him. It's getting harder for him to get around. Fortunately he won't have to go to anymore appointments since they will come here.  I will keep you all posted. Thanks for the continued prayers and concerns....
