This ride has taken place for several years here in Colorado but has only been advertised on the Colorado Riders Thread. It started out as a local ride but the word got out last year and we had folks here from 12 states. We had a blast so I decided that we should extend our invitation to the general board. We welcome all that care to ride some of the best roads CO has to offer. This ride takes place each year on Labor Day Weekend starting in Leadville CO for supper on Friday night. Saturday we will head over Independence pass, through Aspen, Carbondale, back over McClure pass, down the Black Canyon, and back west to Montrose. We will be staying in Montrose for the next two nights with some awesome roads to ride in the area including the Million Dollar Highway. Our late friend Darby was a good dude and cared deeply for children and there well being. We will be collecting a donation of $20.00 per person and donating all proceeds in Darby’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Tailgate Tommy has agreed to handle all funds. As a side note if you can’t make the ride myself or Tommy would be happy to accept a donation in Darby’s honor and would make sure that your $$ made it to the kids. I don’t mind stooping to begging if it will help a sick child.

Basing in Montrose,  I can imagine some great breakaway group rides forming in addition to Red Mountain.  There's Ridgway and Telluride,  The Gateway loop around Nucla (Gateway Auto Museum),  and of course the full loop around Durango,  Creede and Lake City.   The Blue Mesa reservoir is as full as I've ever seen it,  very beautiful this year!

The very best Colorado riding is in range of Montrose.  The Colorado Valkyrie club the High Country Cruisers (now gone)  based our big summer ride-in every year there for years.  Also a couple VOA ride-ins were there - one hosted by Joe Cocker (at his town Crawford nearby, N of the fabulous Black Canyon of the Gunnison road Hwy 92).  Riding Grand Mesa, the Colorado Monument, riding the Dolores River, and the roads to Telluride, Cortez, Durango, Silverton and back. The Discover Car Museum in Gateway is FABULOUS and worth the trip alone.  Then follow that with the Dolores river ride!  I know all those rides and would be glad to lead a couple.  Also I will bring my cargo trailer and Patron / Grand Marnier Markarita fixins for evening relaxations.  Not to mention the tunes via Pandora and my huge 9530 mostly oldies eclectic mp3 collection played on Jade on a charger!  Hafta bring some of my homemade salsa and chips with the hootch...

OK my reserves are in, Christy at Rodeway knew nothing about the discount apparently the mgr didn't tell her yet. She should know tomorrow after he comes in.

Jen remembers us - we stayed there on the ride we lost Darby - she remembers him asking for a coffeepot for his room.  Also remembers our Markarita party and the tunes and is all set to set us up well for the same - kicked back relaxing with good friends tall tales Patron and tunes!  Hope Bruce can fit this into his rides.

Hey Damon you might want to edit your post - there's 31 days in Aug.  Jen already knows and has us down for the correct dates.

I had a great time in 2018, but will sadly miss 2019.  Hope to make it again in 2020.

To all who are considering going: GO!  It's a beautiful time to ride such beautiful country with a bunch of great folks!  And for a great cause...

If you are talking about motels Fri Sat and Sun nights that would be Aug 30 in Leadville; Aug 31 and Sep 1 in Montrose per my calendar.

We're in on the Montrose side.  We'll try to catch up with the group somewhere in God's country on Saturday!    cooldude

Still iffy on this great ride this year.   Juggling a lot of stuff and sore neck and shoulders.  We will decide by this weekend.

DD and I are home safe. Looking for a new front tire as I am typing this. We had a blast. Thanks Damon for putting this together and Mark T for the great Margs and everyone else for being there.

Sharon and I had a great time, thanks Damon for the invite and a great weekend. I didn't take any pictures of the rides we went on, too busy riding, but I did take a few at the Gateway Car Museum, thanks Mark T for leading us there. Went with Mark, June, Chuck, DD, Sharon and Ron.
