Yeah, this is legit... From the Equifax data breach settlement, claim your $125 check (Or more if you had expenditures after their breach)

What a joke!   A buck twenty-five sure sounds like reasonable compensation for fumbling our personal and financial information straight into the dark web.    tickedoff  grrr

Yup, but it's better than nothing....

And, if you did anything because of the breach (Had to track down identity theft, purchased protection, etc) you can bill them for those things too, up to $20,000 per person, but that requires documentation...

So, before I do this activity, which credit monitoring service do you recommend for the six months time requirement?

I personally already have that with my bank, so I just chose the $125 check in lieu of the credit monitoring.

do you really need to have other credit monitoring to get the 125 bucks?  Who is going to figure that out????????????

You  have to read the fine print..."If you’re anything like me, you took off like a shot the moment you heard Equifax would pay you $125 just for filling out a simple form. Perhaps you even considered it a reasonable stab at compensation for the fact that the 2017 data breach exposed the personal information of 147 million Americans.

But the likelihood that you’ll actually get a check for $125 is increasingly slim — because the more people who sign up, the less money each person gets. In fact, there’s only room for 248,000 people to get that amount.

If 1 million people ask for the money, they’ll be eligible for just $31 each.

If every single one of the 147 million affected people sign up, they’ll be looking at 21 cents."

Yup... Considering my eldest spawn's middle name is Krynn (As in the planet that the Dragonlance adventures take place on) I'm very familiar with the Dark Elves of Forgotten Realms.....  Wink

Our DM tormented my character (Serk, of course, where I got my name from) in Menzoberranzan quite a bit...

Interesting that it says my data was likely breeched, but SU was not.  Scratching my head on that.

All our "data" is hosed, I think. I went to the web page where you're supposed to type it all
in again and send it off somewhere to the Internet, and I just closed the page. Niki Haley's
administration lost all of South Carolina's "data" during her first term and signed everyone
in South Carolina up for monitoring, and since it is The State, we're paying for it ourselves  ??? ...

Local radio money gurus say it's best to take the 10 years credit monitoring.

I took the credit monitoring the minute I got it. 10 yrs is worth way more than 125 bucks plus your chance of getting 125 is not very good.

Forget credit monitoring, FREEZE your credit. Yes it costs but much less than having the scum try using your name and info to acquire fraudulent loans, etc. I have been an identity theft victim and can assure your it is no fun having the IRS show up and freeze your assets because they think you are the scofflaw.

As far as Equifax, they should be shut down. IMHO they are the most incompetent company handling financial information ever. They have dropped my credit freeze 3 times since 2010 without my permission. While they have re-instated the freeze each time at no charge, there has been no explanation as to why the freeze was dropped in the first place. My credit union now notifies me of any changes to my credit, as well as any inquiries to the big three for my credit history. It is actually amazing the hits by credit card companies (and others) to your financial records that don't reflect as a hard hit by the reporting agencies.

Mine has been frozen since about 2005.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you do not lose the PIN # given by Experian, Equifax and Trans Union.

This, I agree with. $125 is nothing compared to what it will cost if someone steals your identity. I also have fraud protection from both of the banks that I use.
