The most important job of the family. Too many kids don’t have it and sometimes their family is the storm. My wife was an elementary teacher and saw it every day.

My grandsons don’t realize how fortunate they are in things and stuff but the most valuable thing in their lives besides mom and dad has been my wife, their Nana, that gives them her undivided attention every day. That is one thing that I know they realize even though they aren’t quite 4 years old.

And right now, I'm living "in the storm". When we got to KC, with MIL, came a 21 year old son of one of my wife's cousins (said cousin lives less than .5 mile away). Neither parent was anywhere close to the model of "ideal parents" (I'm not sure they even tried), as a result, the son, is a total wreck. anger management issues, from his dad he got that it's OK to scream and shout like a lunatic when he's angry (which is way too much of the time, for the wrong reasons). MIL , and while he was alive, her husband were the de facto local grandparents and the boys spent lots of time with them, but it didn't seem to help. I'm at my wits end trying to deal with this. IMO ( not professional), the kid needs some time in-patient mental health care until he decides to start dealing with his issues. Irresponsibility is the kindest thing I can say about him.
