I took my kids to see Def Leppard last night.  My 14-year-old son, a naturally fun guy, was screaming and banging his head as well as any of the women in their late-40s to mid-50s with their 80s-era hairstyles and makeup.  My 17-year-old daughter said it was the best time she's ever had!  Ahh...yes, I remember my first rock concert too!  They put on a good show.  I can't think of a song of theirs they didn't play that I wished they would have played.  They did a decent job playing one cover, David Essex's "Rock On".  I saw them from fairly close to the stage in a smaller venue in 2000, so it was a different experience being in the second level of an NHL arena.

Tesla opened.  They were excellent on their instruments, the singer was in tune, and you could tell they were having a blast pretending to be rock stars.  The audience had fun playing along with them too!  I didn't recognize any of their songs, never having been a big fan of better-known similar bands like Poison, Cinderella, or Great White.

That's funny... Def Leppard, with opening act Tesla, was the first "real" concert I ever went to, December 13th 1987 at Reunion Arena in Dallas.....

Sounds like you are about my age, GR.

What a weird time that was...listened to the hair bands but at the same time, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Joe Diffie, etc.

I showed my 18 and 21 year old kids a picture of Poison...they were shocked I listened to them, being the bearded conservative guy they know me as today.

I remember having to sneak out of the house to go see Aerosmith and Skid Row in the late 80’s. My Dad didn’t approve of the “hippy” music.  Turns out my girlfriend (now wife) got sick from all the weed smoke. We left the arena to get some fresh air and weren’t allowed back in. Listened to Aerosmith through the locked doors.

I still listen to a lot of different genres, but country 95% of the time now.
