May God comfort them and their loved ones and let the coward(s) that did such a thing rot in hell eternity. It's well past time the to recover our lost self-defense mechanisms and keep them and ourselves at the ready. Rams

God have mercy! 22 this year, they say.
I didn't see anything in there about response times from police. I guess it's high time I become first line of defense and get my ccl.

How does that old saying go? When a crime is seconds from being committed, the police are only minutes away...……… While I know it sounds harsh, people who are not prepared to defend themselves are simply victims in waiting. Do something about it, don't become a victim. Another old saying: It's better to be judged by twelve than carried by six. Rams

PRAYERS up for the Victims in El Paso and Dayton. I've heard the useless turd in Dayton was put down permanently by the LEOs. I personally will do my best to Not become a victim. And the-ahem-political types have received-pardon me-more ammunition for their cause(s). I WILL offer up PRAYERS at Church this morning for those Killed and Wounded. RIDE SAFE.

Sunday’s shooting in Dayton is the 22nd mass killing of 2019 in the U.S., according to the AP/USA Today/Northeastern University mass murder database that tracks homicides where four or more people killed — not including the offender. The 20 mass killings in the U.S. in 2019 that preceded this weekend claimed 96 lives. this is just UNREAL to me how 22 mass killings alone in 2019 have happened. That shocks me to death literally how so many young men (most am sure) are so screwed up in their lives with NO morales or ethics or common sense to do such acts of evil. What is it in their lives that is so bad they go about killing innocent citizens and think nothing of it?

......a perceived lack of power is what drives them.
They shouldn't own weapons. I can't believe no one was carrying nearby in that Texas Walmart.
I think I would have been crouched behind something and firing if I saw him shooting up the place.
Coulda woulda shoulda.

My plan is to circle around (if possible) and put two in the back of his head.
I'm not going to get in a gunfight and give away my position and armed status (from cover or otherwise) with an AR or an AK with a carry pistol. Unless there is no other choice.
Or charge on a mag change.
Either way, count your (limited) shots.

So would I. And mindful that responding LEO's will likely take YOU as the shooter instead of the hero. As expected - nearly all lib presidential candidates are shouting "commonsense laws" pushed as apparently a main plank on their election platform. I'm afraid 2A is close to being in jeopardy as a result. Take the guns from the law abiding so we can't defend ourselves from these whackos. And registration, and attacks on "weapons of war". Then watch us repeat history of other tyrannical countries. And yes, "weapons of war" DO HAVE A PLACE IN PATRIOT'S HANDS. The purpose of the 2A is to prevent tyranny. It's not deer who will want to trample your rights and subjugate you. Liberals try to make gun rights about hunting and MAYBE home defense. NOT THE CASE. And some, even Repubs pushing for other reforms like Anne Coulter's term limits. Hey, you really want to open a Constitution Convention? Guess what else will be pushed if you open that Pandora's Box?

I don't know if the average one would but I'd give it a go with reasonable circumstances with one of the 2 J-frame Smith .357s I carry with Crimson Trace green lasers. Fairly accurate with the lasers - pretty consistent 2" groups at 25 yards. Any attempt of return fire is likely to scare the piss out of these cowards. Just good care not to hit an innocent. Some other guns might be a bit better but I'll have to break out the SCUBA gear to retrieve them.

My homepage is-sigh-MSN. Just read a post that stated there have been 250 Mass shootings this year already. I've heard that 4 or more being shot moves it to the mass category. I believe one innocent gunned down is TOO MANY! What I'm Still attempting to sort out with NO luck is the WHY of libs blaming the weapon. They've already proven in order to massacre large numbers of people a good sized rental van will do. Any fire arm I've ever owned has yet to go off accidently. BUT when I pull the bang switch it do indeed operate as intended. In a similar situation-active shooter-I PRAY my training would take over along with good sense and cancel the shooters life. Also remember what some members from Australia have told us repeatedly-DO NOT let gubmint take yer weapons. I'm FINALLY realizing now what my Father meant when he told me All those years ago-you can't see the forest for the trees. RIDE SAFE.

Is it reasonable to assume that your average .357 owner has the ability to take out a nut with an AR-15?
Sadly no. The “average” gun owner today doesn’t train enough to hit a barn under stress. A newbie gun owner that has never been in a stressful situation will be less than 50% as accurate as they were at the range

... I've heard that 4 or more being shot moves it to the mass category. ... Something's wrong with some people's mathematics. The shootings in California resulting in three dead were reported and counted as mass.

Besides training level/skill, and willingness to enter the fight, there is the question of the carry piece itself.
Most carry something small that fits in a pocket, or just a bit larger. This is not (even close to) an ideal weapon to go against a rifle shooter, indoors or out. The usual carry piece is something we think we may use at arm's length or a bit further to ward off a strong arm robbery or thug (or two).
With a small pocket pistol or a bit larger, I think the ability to maneuver close(r) to the perp before he knows you're there (or wait in ambush) is more likely to bring success than good marksmanship from longer range.
So fieldcraft may be as or more important than pure marksmanship with a carry piece in a live rifle shooter scenario.
I know some carry full size or close to it. I think most do not.

The LEOs in Dayton had the idiot dead within a minuet of him opening fire, the area that he was in is big college hangout area with multi bars....lots of police presence They say he killed his sister and her boyfriend first and then just opened fire... People who went to school with him say he was a ticking bomb waiting to go off, say he threatened classmates and girls who rejected him in school......so glad the LEO put him down so we don't have to worry about the expense of a trial.

Understand the perp was wearing body armor...wonder what the police used to take him out or where he was shot. Head? Some caliber that would penetrate the vest like a HP rifle?
Average person with a CPL probably would not be carrying something to penetrate which would require a skilled headshot or through the side? Pelvic shot might take him down but not out? Any with more knowledge on these matters please chime in and enlighten me (and maybe others also).

mass shooter Connor Betts is a self-described "leftist" and "atheist" who praised Antifa, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren and wrote "Kill every fascist" on his Twitter page, according to a report from Heavy.com. He also repeatedly tweeted out "Hail Satan," praise for the terrorist who attacked an ICE facility last month and repeated Alexandria Ocasio Cortez's "concentration camps" meme. Betts' social media footprint is the exact opposite of the "white supremacist" terror narrative the media has been pushing all day. In his Twitter profile, Connor Betts, the 24-year-old suspected gunman in the Dayton mass shooting, wrote, "he/him / anime fan / metalhead / leftist / i'm going to hell and i'm not coming back." https://t.co/mSIxB1NZLE pic.twitter.com/gdokY6ShsY — Heavy.com (@HeavySan) August 4, 2019 From Heavy.com: Connor Betts, the Dayton, Ohio mass shooter, was a self-described “leftist,” who wrote that he would happily vote for Democrat Elizabeth Warren, praised Satan, was upset about the 2016 presidential election results, and added, “I want socialism, and i’ll not wait for the idiots to finally come round to understanding.” Betts’ Twitter profile read, “he/him / anime fan / metalhead / leftist / i’m going to hell and i’m not coming back.” One tweet on his page read, “Off to Midnight Mass. At least the songs are good. #athiestsonchristmas.” The page handle? I am the spookster. On one selfie, he included the hashtags, “#selfie4satan #HailSatan @SatanTweeting.” On the date of Republican Sen. John McCain’s death, he wrote, “F*ck John McCain.”

Reports are that he first killed his sister and her boyfriend. He had resigned himself to dying. He simply decided to go out with a splash.
It's not a typical "mass killing".
