Additionally the graphic of the Serkle is a bit misleading as it is based upon direct distance rather than road (riding) distance. I'm pretty sure Pennsylvania is completely excluded from the true Serkle.
No, Serk roughly calculated riding distance (as did I). Freeport, PA is 10 miles closer to Rowlett than is Morgantown. But, as I said, there are no hotels there. So, obviously, with that bit of information, PA is essentially excluded. Oops. Apparently not. Freeport is not within the Serkle graphic and Pittsburgh is closer to Rowlett than is Freeport. If Brian had used road distance the line would not be smooth. It's a good representation, though, and it appears the top locations being considered all al within the graphic. Since the tool that I used previously that plots a circle based on road distance is no longer available I did a hybrid, eyeballing it as best as I could based on a few spot road distances. It's not perfect by any means... I did say roughly. Since I said not as the crow flies, I figured you compensated for road distance somehow.

Judging from what I have learned in my short time in this group the top 2/3's of Ohio can be eliminated even though it's in the Serkle for lack of hills and twisties.

I agree with your Alabama assessment. Haters Gadsden, AL is about 4F warmer in JUN than Roanoke, VA (according to climatology). If AL is too hot at avg. high of 87F in JUN, and Roanoke is not too hot at 84F, that will help us trim the "Serkle" --- we just need to find areas within that swath that fits a climo that is 85F or cooler. I will probably do the trip to Gadsden a different time --- looks pretty awesome to me. I know it's unsolicited, but I can imagine it's hard to take all these things into account on your own, so I'll keep trying to find a new suggestion within those defined bounds every few weeks or so until it's determined where we're going.

Lacking the deducing skills, the hacking abilities, and the omnipotent powers of the NSA that our friend Serk possesses. I will close my eyes and throw a dart at the map as I did last year. Drum Roll........my guess is Charleston, West Virginia.

I'm sure you aren't far off, if it doesn't turn out to be Charleston... Certainly not a bad choice, either, and we'll enjoy that area regardless of ground zero's precise location... Looking forward to seeing you and all there... or near there! DDT

A question staff may or may not yet be comfortable answering, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask: Taking the default route via Google Maps from Rowlett, TX to the potential ground zero location, will I be adding any states to my pitiful "States I've ridden in" map?

Yes (assuming negotiations solidify the location being considered). I must amend my affirmative response. Google presented me with three options. More than one of the options would validate my answer.

Any thoughts to locating at/near a motorcycle campground? There are several really nice ones exclusive to motorcyclists in the VA/NC Blue Ridge: Willville, Iron Horse, etc.

I must say I've ridden North Central / North AL in early June and it could warm up to mid 80's by 3 pm but cool down nice. It's not bad at all. Leeds, AL with Barbers Motorsports a must visit then with Cheha State Park close by. Nice roads north to Anniston, Gadsden, Ft. Payne, and over to Scottsboro and back. All pretty close to TN & GA line with lots of good rides and nice roads with little traffic. Not to mention Great folks and food, so I don't think anyone would be disappointed. There is a lack of twisties but good riding none the less. It would be a good site for InZane IMHO.

Leave it to the rookie, here; the Lurker & Learner, not Frequent Poster....to point out the virtues of InZane in Kenwacky.
Specifically: basecamp anywhere near the Mammoth Cave area. Motels. Twisties. Scenery, galore.
A day trip to the Daniel Boone National Forest? Raven Rock Overlook; Chimney Rock. The beautiful Red River Gorge!
A day trip to Kentucky & Barkley Lakes, with a riding tour of Land Between The Lakes.
Any exit off the Mountain Parkway? More two-lane twisties. Only: like a roller-coaster!
40 minutes north up I- 65? Bernheim Forest; simply unreal.
Fairly certain nobody on here has heard of Moonlight Barbecue in Owensboro....
And it's an open carry state, if that matters as much to y'all as it does to us.
Just my two cents worth!

Gnarly,
I'm hoping this is the area. We rode through on our way to Morgantown after being in Bowling Green for a tour of Corvette Museum and a night in Elizabethtown. Spent a night on the way to Roanoke in Columbia we didnt realize that the CST/EST timezone was so close we lost an hour right away that morning.

I live here in Elizabethtown,KY. Yep drive 30 minutes or so to my West and I travel back in time 1 hour...lol KY would be a great place for INZANE, not just because I live here. There are lot's of good roads and plenty of day trip destinations.

Using Willow's response to my query about my adding new states to my "States I've ridden in" map, I played around with some mapping this morning, and have eliminated a few possible areas as the Google Maps default routes would not have me adding any new states to get there... This next map is a total and complete WAG on my part, just looking at the available areas and looking at possible nicer areas for motorcycling, I'm gonna guess somewhere in one of the red circles. But this is just a WAG, NOT based on direct analysis of the hints given, beyond guessing based on area: (I have also not yet analyzed the circled areas to see which ones, if any, contain locales large enough to support a hotel that would qualify for our requirements for a ground zero locale. Might do that later depending on if I get bored ) Anyone see any other strong potential areas in the Serkle map that would make good locales that I missed? ...patiently waiting for the next bit of empirical data from the Powers that Be...

That circle with northeast Kentucky has some fine roads in fact all the way thru WV into SW Pa is really the same chain of mountains "Appalachians " Those go thru the Shawangunks, the Catskills in NY and the Taconics and Green Mountains Very old mountains, once as tall as the Alps ! I have had interesting rides in SE Ohio (the border with WV is a river) and many roads you can not tell at all where the road goes as you get to the crest of hills. You have to be on your best as it could zig instead of zag or just go straight back down, you never know I think the area around Penn State has some big conference centers. Perhaps the ride will thus be in a college town..

Roads are good but hotels aren't big enough; you'd need 2 side by side. Plus it's prime tourist/schools out time. The place becomes a zoo.
