On the weekend past we rode some secondary roads for a round trip of about 230 km/140 miles. Roads were in great shape, just the usual crack in the asphalt every so often.
A semi heading the opposite direction approaches at about 100km/60mph and we were doing the same speed. As we pass each other a rock of about 2" in size  Shocked comes flying across, does one hop and drills me right square in the knee cap  Cry! Usually I wear my chaps on a ride that long but ...... not today. I don't think they would have helped anyway but it is funny how things seem to happen when your not fully geared up. I did have on my full face helmet though as I can't imagine what that would feel like if you were to take it in the face!
I'm glad my knee took the impact instead of my tank as my knee feels okay already but the tank would still be needing repair.

I'd say you are very lucky.  Even hitting you in the hand could have caused immediate and long term problems.  Had a truck pick up a rock and crease the side of our new (3-4 week old) Accord.  Funnyy how you can see them bouncing along, but still can't avoid.  Like a large bug heading directly at you.

I wear an open face helmet. One morning in the dark, I took one of those rocks in the nose. I was wearing safety glasses which saved my left eye. Still have a dent in my nose.

I'm sure my tank would have been dented as the impact on my knee was enough to make your eyes water!  Grin

That's why I have a windshield AND use a faceshield on my open face helmet...

I always dip my head down and away from on coming trucks just in case. Most times they are kicking up small stones and gravel....I even do it with my FFH....

I have had things hit the bottom of my foot while riding with feet on the highway pegs.

Gotta be prepared out there....
