These bikes are getting old. All of the suggestions above are valid. I would also state that the battery is very suspect if it is more than 2 or 3 years old. My last battery lasted 5 years, but their life depends on a multitude of factors. Easy thing to do is to jump start with a car. If it springs to life, probably the battery. The main fuse is a possible also. I guess it’s hard to know. If you’ve not done any maintenance on the starter switch then that is another week spot. Even the ignition switch is prone to failure without some TLC over the years. I’ve been into all of them. You’ll need to start with the battery and work your way throug the system. We’re here to help.

1st, like nogrey suggested, jump start from a known working battery.
Make sure your kill switch isn't on. In neutral (roll the bike), clutch in. IS shouldn't have a problem with the starter switch, while being able to see the lights with the ignition on, try the starter switch. You should see the light go out as the power is cut and transferred to the starter.
Next would be the starter relay.

Dash and Acc position? must I be an I/S. Regardless check the connection on the ignition switch itself. Acc is a separate section of the switch.
Edited. I meant ignition switch, not starter switch.

Thanks to all who replied, turned out to the obvious- loose battery connection, I just overthought the damn thing, could have saved a lot of grief from the GF on pushing her home !
