A great ride today with about 40% of our BC contingent (we're a small bunch up here). Yours truly met up with the 3 urbanites GordonV, George, and the young import from Germany, Christian...aka VanCityValkyrie (who really brings down the average age of us old(ish) Valk riders a notch or two) in the town of Hope for the first leg of the Duffy Lake loop ride. With both me and my old Valk having a severe aversion to venturing anywhere near the "armpit of Motorcycle riding in BC" which is the metropolis of Greater Vancouver and its suburban offshoots, my day would see me accompany the others up the Fraser Canyon and across Hwy 12 to Lillooet for a lunch stop before heading back on the same route on my own to my little haven out in the boonies, while they completed the loop through Duffy Lake, Pemberton, and Whistler... which while a good part of it is quite spectacular, necessitates having to slog through the aforementioned "armpit" in order to complete the whole loop.

All gassed up and ready to head up the Canyon from the town of Hope. Gordon's IS in the foreground with his brand-spankin' new Goldwing alternator that he got a real smokin' deal on thru Amazon (more about that later tickedoff)

Being without my co-pilot on this day meant that I was also without my crack photographer and with Gordon insisting that I lead our little group up the Canyon, there were no photos to be had on the way to Lillooet as we enjoyed a brisk run with only one short stop in Lytton. Here we are lined up at the historic Reynolds Hotel in Lillooet for lunch.

It was at this point that Gordon announced that his brand-spankin' new Goldwing alternator that he got such a smokin' deal on thru Amazon was making quite a racket and causing his voltmeter readout to drop faster than Wile E. Coyote tethered to an anvil. While George, Christian and me enjoyed a leisurely lunch, Gordon gobbled his down and went out to start removing the obviously defective alternator that he got such a smokin' deal on thru Amazon so that he could replace it with the GOOD spare he had actually brought along to return to me...after I had originally lent it to him when his old alternator failed up at our Valhalla rally this past June. With all the practice he's had in the past couple of months, ol' Gord had the switcheroo done in record time and had gathered quite a crowd of locals to watch his mastery of alternator removal and replacement, by the time we finished our last cup of coffee and sauntered out to see about giving him a hand  Wink

After a few photos (Gord and Christian...please add your photos), we parted ways with me headed home on my own on a much more leisurely pace to enjoy the amazing scenery that the 60 km or so section of Hwy 12 between Lillooet and Lytton provides. Lots of stops for photos...

There is absolutely no better feeling (well, except maybe seeing our brand new Grandaughter arrive in this world 4 days ago Smiley Smiley) than a solo ride on new tires (loving the new E4 rear), on near new pavement on a winding mountain road with NO traffic, and perfect weather.

That ridge looks sharp as a knife! Our mountains are old and rounded off...

cooldude I'd hope to get up that way one of these days. What great scenery and fine looking Interstates. As I get closer to retirement it'd be a good 2-3 week trip for me. Thx for sharing. smitten

The oldest thing in that photo is the guy holding the camera. He’s still sharp as a knife though...and gonna be the coolest fly fishin, shotgun shootin, calendar worthy beast ridin Gramps ever.   cooldude

Great ride report as usual. Sucks about Gord’s alternator but sounds like he was prepared as usual.

Thanks for posting Mike, pictures ULed and sent to you. Congratulation on the latest grandchild, I must have missed it at the lunch table while working on my bike.

As Mike alluded to, by the time we got to lunch my new China alternator had failed completely. Only battery voltage showing. I didn't time myself, but I did everything right, and had it out and Mike's spare back in the bike, the bike started and displaying a charging volt again, all by the time I was going in to wash up and the guys coming out.

We took our pictures, before Mike left us going back the same way we came up, and we headed out on the ride down Hwy 99 towards Vancouver via one leg of the Duffy Lake Loop, the forested side.

Christian had a request to make a detour up Pemberton Meadows to a little micro-brewery at one of the original homesteader's farm, where the 4th generation started this up from their own local produce.
https://www.thebeerfarmers.com/

My 1st time back there in 34 years. I had family there for a couple of generations, mom spend time there growing up, and I spend many a summer/winter holiday there on the farm or in the mountains, with my cousin. It's changed from a farming community to being the bedroom for Whistler and all the YUPPIES there.

Then back on the road to Whistler. The old section of Hwy 99 that wasn't upgraded for the 2010 Winter Olympics, was more like it's single lane winding roads, a pleasure to ride a MC on. Unlike Mike, I don't stop for pictures, I just keep going. Our next destination was a little Diner in Whistler for a coffee.

When we got there, seems they where closed at 3pm and it was 3:30. So across the Hwy to a little strip mall, and George's 1st choice of a Starbucks, which I hadn't bought from since my 1st Valhalla weekend back in something like 2010.

Gassed up and towards Squamish, where we took the time to stretch and get a couple of pics.

This is where Christian left George and I, as he had an appointment with a dog and some beer to deliver. We continued our ride towards Vancouver. Traffic was heavier, but typical of the afternoon crowd. When we got to the North Shore, I had forgotten to check the traffic radio, and by the time I programmed the radio while riding and checked, we where already in the traffic jam, and no where to turn off the Hwy.

1/2 hr to get past the accident, then across the 2nd Narrows Bridge, where George and I pull off the Hwy and stop for a bite to eat at a Wendy's. A short break, we each contacted the spousal units that we where in Vancouver and home soon.

Just as a mention, it was a long day. Up at 5:30 am, to go to the meet up for a 7 am leave time. I estimate we would have gotten back back around 7 pm if it hadn't been for the accident and the extra stop at the end. Makes for a 12 hour ride day. It was nice, leisurely, and fun riding with the guys. I need to do this again.

Gord and Christian...thx for adding to the post...great photos. Glad you all got home OK, but that's exactly why I won' t go anywhere near Vancouver...sorry you had to get stuck in that.
