The press/police have not said his name. Only that he is white in his 30's. No motive yet either. At least he won't take up any time in the justice phase.

The West Texas shooting Saturday brings the number of mass killings in the U.S. so far this year to 25, matching the number in all of 2018, according to The AP/USATODAY/Northeastern University mass murder database. If it turns out the shooter is not among the five dead, the number of victims for this year has already reached 140, the level of all last year.

Does this paragraph make sense to anyone?  Do these people bother to proofread before publishing?

My third grade teacher would make me stand in the corner for such crummy math.  (is it 25 or 140?)

There has long been dispute in counting deceased perp/shooters (whether by suicide or LEO marksmanship) in totaling up mass shooting body counts.  Of course the media and anti 2dA folks like to maximize the numbers whenever possible.  When a perp takes a bullet, it's just more evidence of bad gun violence.

When in fact, if a perp takes a bullet (his own or LEO marksmanship), isn't that actually GOOD gun violence?

My daughter lives there. It started as a traffic stop. The guy shot the trooper. He then went on an extended drive shooting randomly. It was more like a long drive by shooting than a mass shooting.

No, there was 25 shooting incidents. 140 was the # of victims.

I was hearing it this morning for the first time, there was 7 deaths reported.

What happened to the 250 (something) mass shootings this year?

The press likes to include gang member victims in the children category.  This helps to inflate the victim numbers for their gun ban agenda.

25 or 140  should ONLY be NONE or very few.

what is this world coming to, seriously?    Every nut job has a screw loose today.

Sad day,   either I lived under a rock growing up in the 70's or the news/media reporting mass killings was near non existent way back then vs. now?

The media and the anti-gunners  jump all over something like this, but they ignore what going on in our big cities:

In Chicago, 1,800 people have been shot this year. That is 212 fewer than 2018.

https://www.chicagotribune.com/data/ct-shooting-victims-map-charts-htmlstory.html

In Chicago, 330 people have been killed this year.
The majority of Chicago homicides are the result of gun violence.

Shot (282)
Unknown (215)
Stabbing (19)
Other (3)

And someone Please CORRECT me should my statement be wrong but doesn't cook county Il and therefore Chicago have some of the toughest most restrictive gun laws around? And wurkin not so good I might add. According to what I heard on the "news" and read the doer in Odessa had been fired earlier that day. Yet the ahem-media and those wanting our legally owned and legally purchased weapons continue to blame the projectile firing apparatus. First reports I heard about Odessa stated from the git go it were an "assault style weapon"! If you start wailin on a person with a half inch drive 18" long breaker bar doesn't the breaker bar then become an assault weapon? Prayers up for All the Families affected by the senseless killing in Odessa Texas.  angel RIDE SAFE.

Agreed.

But how can you apply some sensible firearm laws, to a citizenry who has a 2nd Ammendment right to firearms? Then how can you stop further encroachment of those rights, once it's started? Look at Canada, but then we aren't citizens, but Subjects (to the Crown), with no rights to self protection.

If you start wailin on a person with a half inch drive 18" long breaker bar doesn't the breaker bar then become an assault weapon?

It was mentioned often in the 90's when we started with the full registration of all firearms and changes to the Act, that if you know of an item that was used as a weapon, then that item is a weapon (?).

So someone strangled someone with a stocking. In that case, a woman who has a spare set of stockings in her purse, then is carrying a concealed weapon, and was subject to 4 years in prison.
