I broke my side stand spring holder bolt and am having a hard time tightening the nut on the replacement.  Any tips?

Thanks, Matt

Is the charcoal evaporation canister (California bike) blocking access to the piece the bolt screws into? The evap canister is easily removed. If my memory serves me right (been 15 or more years since I dealt with the broken bolt in question) the OEM bolt screws in and through the structural member - then the nut screws down on top of the OEM stud from the top.
