IMHO if it's bothering you the bib is the way to go.... Other people have painted it matte black too...

We have a member who hand makes the gas cap cover you see on msb's bike. Clint Divco ? I'm sure he could come up with something to match your custom tank.  cooldude

I also have a small magnetic bag that I put over the cap when I ride.  Holds my spare ear plugs, 1st aid kit  sunglasses and other stuff.

That vrcc cover looks real nice

Take that windscreen down and the problem vanishes.   Smiley

Clint of Kansas City, Missouri does make covers for the Valkyrie tank gas caps.

It never bothered me until someone complained on here. Then I noticed it and it bothered me  tickedoff

It took at least a month to put it back on ignore. It doesn’t bother me anymore.  Just don’t look at it.

It’s easy to ignore if you try. Cheap easy fix for me anyway.

I never noticed or was bothered by glare... I just saw these cool covers at my first Inzane in Spearfish and thought this one looked so good with my Iron Horse tank bib and the colours matched my bike and Red-highlighted Corbin seat so I bought it.

Now I'm gonna have to take it off on a sunny day to see if there's glare...  2funny

Is this a problem on Interstates?

Have had both tanks on my fat girl and have never noticed the problem.
Edited:  Then again, I don’t have an Interstate windscreen.   Duh....

Don't have the glare on my IS at all, but had it bad, real bad, on my Tourer. Would slip a rag under the tank bib to cover the chrome on long trips. The windshield on the Tourer actually magnified the reflected image and increased the glare to a blinding point.

Wonder what a flat matte silver finish would look like?

Ironic, it has a lot to do with your riding position IMHO, I never noticed it on my standard (Turned into a tourer) but DO notice it on my Interstate.....

Among other things, its a function of a lot of angles, including one's height in the seat.

Rather than pay to powdercoat your cap, just rub some wax on it and don't polish it off (oh... the horror).  Grin

Tipping the windshield on the Tourer eliminates it - as well as a lot of other benefits.  Jade and Deerslayer are both tipped.  I bought Clint's covers just cause I liked them and to support his work.

the leather guy is Clint Peters.  He does great leather work.  Have two belt buckles he has made for me.

I haven't noticed the glare on my I/S windshield, but have it reflect in my eyes.  Just certain times of the year.

Being a White Guy (is that politically correct nowadays? FYI: don't care, it is what it is...) with light colored eyes, glare of any kind bugs the crap outta me!

Including the glare off of the gas cap on my Standard on a Sunny day.

Enough to where I'm tempted to have it powder-coated semi-gloss black, along with the tops of the valve covers (or maybe the whole cover, haven't decided yet).

Clint has a few gas cap covers already made and has a bunch of orders to start making in mid-September.  He told me he didn't mind his phone number being on the board but I'm not comfortable with that.

Clint's email address is c l i n t s d i v c o @ a o l . c o m without the spaces, of course.

I have been riding my I/S for 19 years and have never noticed a glare from the sun.  I also had a Std with Honda W/S for 14 years and never seen a glare on that one.
I'm wondering if it might be the rider's height?... since not everyone see's it, just a thought.
I would try spraying it with Plasti-Dip. (sp?)

Although I have never experienced this phenomenon, I suspect it is based on the angle of the dangle or, the height of the rider and the reflection of sunlight based on where the solar rays are coming from and the direction of the fat lady's path.

Personally, I can't begin to imagine coating that beautiful gas cap.   But, that's just me.

When I get my bike the chrome was painted black but it was done a long time ago and it wasn't holding up well.  I used  brillo the clean it up and it looks like new occasionally I do notice the glare but not enough to do something about it.

Clintsdivco is Clint's handle.  You were on the right path.

I have one of his covers and it is fantastic.  Covers that mirror chrome right up.

I do have several gas cap covers left over from Inzane in Taos this year. I can carve about anything you want on the covers. I have several orders to complete when I get home from my summer vacation. Haven't been home since leaving Taos, but I'm on my way now. If interested, email me at clintsdivco@aol.com and I can send pictures of what I have or we can discuss your own personalized design.
