East Tennessee, western North Carolina, northwest Georgia - Gods country, no better place on earth. Great riding, great scenery and great folks.
Tennessee does not have an income tax so residency should be there, with access to the other 2 areas. I like Chattanooga, small enough to get around in, large enough to have most services. If you want smaller city with close access to larger city, try Dunlap, Cleveland, Dayton, Jasper, further out try Spring City, Athens, Decater.
Be hard to go wrong anywhere in East Tennessee.
Just my 2 cents worth. Thanks, Pete

Born and raised in east TN. Still here. Anywhere east of Knoxville is good. The closer you get to NC the better it looks.

I live in Memphis and know some really great riding spots on the outskirts. However if I had my choice and riding was the main criteria I would choose Chatanooga or Knoxville probably. The mountains in east TN are just unbeatable. Memphis is going to be your best bet by far as far a cities with the most land for your $$. The only better deals are going to be in BFE nowhereville. If small towns or lack of a town isn't a problem then stay the hell out of memphis. It is not a nice or particularly safe town, and the ghettos are all right on top of the nice neighborhoods with almost no separation.

Anywhere in east Tennessee is a great place to live. Gives you access to NC, North GA, VA and KY too. We live in central FL most of the time and own a house in Tellico Plains TN / and the riding is why. The climate is good, the people are warm and friendly, the roads are GREAT, fishing and hiking are some of the best, prices reasonable. Who could ask for more.

Just try to avoid the touristy areas - Gatlinburg, Pidgeon Forge, etc due to higher cost and traffic. -RP

Thanks for your input. I have the freedom to move anywhere and an income tax free state is a bonus.Trying to shorten our winter in small community close, but not in larger city with all services. We have been on West Coast all of our life and need mountains and low cost of living wouldn't bother me either.

an income tax free state is a bonus Just remember, we have one of the highest sales tax rates around! That's why it's gooder.....I mean better to live fairly close to NC or VA. Hop across the line to buy stuff with about 1/2 the sales tax.

We have a crew in Olive Branch right now building a powerline. I've been there several times over the last few months hauling equipment and material. You turn off Hwy 72 toward Olive Branch and the crew is showing up a few miles on the left. I'll be coming back more when they finish the line to move equipment to the next job . We work in 8 southern states.

Smokinjoe, from hwy 72 onto 302, then a few miles on the left in a pasture close to the hwy right? I know where you are talking about. That is near my house, I'm right off Hwy 302 East of Hacks Cross Rd. I remember you telling me this in Lexington, if you have time when here call me, we'll go eat or at least get some coffee. 601-278-8060. Ken
