Rob McCaghren, 72, a man whom many call their friend, lost his life in a collision with a deer while riding his motorcycle September 5th, about 15 minutes after sunset on the west edge of Calgary.  He had a casual retirement business fixing motorcycles, with a specialty in Yamaha Ventures.  He was famous for his ability to easily make people's acquaintance, was a well of positivity and humour, and had an unending supply of stories to tell.  A humble man, he was always willing and able to lend a hand to friends or strangers.  He was a key member of our Calgary chapter of the CMA.  He was my father's friend, and mine.  My family loved him.

GR,

Sad to hear that news... sorry for your loss. We're all only a heartbeat away from a sudden end, especially when we ride. I had an 'event' myself just this morning... I'll explain in an upcoming post...

Sorry for your loss GR.  It can happen so fast even when riding alert to deer.  I had one on the shoulder just yesterday I kicked myself for not seeing him sooner.  And I'm especially aware having killed 2 on my first Valk, and having hit some in WI at high speed in cages.  One a truck rigged with a plow - the deer came out the worse on that one.  We all need to have good lights, be very aware, slow down, and let cages run interference when appropriate.

Sorry for the loss of your friend.

Deer at twilight and after is real danger
and are a big worry around here and elsewhere

I remember Wiggy (RIP my friend)  hit one on the way back from Spearfish and still made it home.  You never know when one will come out of nowhere

Sorry to hear the loss of your friend.

Prayers and Positive Waves.

Just had discussions with work colleagues today about the number of late yearlings in our area. Seems the numbers have exploded this year.

And when the grass turns brown the forest rats will be Even HARDER to see!

This is a main reason they scare the bejeebers out of me!   Around here they are downright camouflaged!   Like Mark mentioned they can be pretty much invisible until you're right upon them - -  even when you're on the lookout!

Sorry to hear about your good friend.
